Is it possible to wire my folding mirrors into my alarm. at the moment if my windows are down and i walk away from the car, when i press the remote to lock it, the windows do them selves up. was just wondering if there was a way to patch into the wiring that achieves this, to also fold the mirrors in as well?

The question has arisen on a few occasions, with no definitive answer, apart from you would need either some relay or capacitor inline with the feeds to the switch.

I would like to do this, but have a million and one other things to do first, so if you manage it Ian, do a write up.

The mirror obviously has 2 x12v feeds, one for open, one for fold. I would have thought you would need to feed to the door solenoids, as you get the open and lock ( open and fold) and have a capacitor inline with each feed, to store enough voltage to operate the mirrors as the door solenoid locks or unlocks. Shouldnt be too difficult lol

Should be fine - I used a timer relay with my alarm to give full closure on the windows, no reason why you couldnt fit one to fold the mirrors also :)

Probably need a timer relay though because the door lock is instantaneous (well, almost !) but you have to keep the mirror switch pressed

I don't have to keep my mirror switch pressed......

no i dont think you do need to hold it down, but you still need the power to the mirrors for a longer period of time than the locks do, (i think?)

my dad was about to knock something up for this, but he's going for an op on tuesday, when he's out he's gonna do it for me, will be few weeks off, but i'll write a detailed jobby of how he does it.....

the idea was to tap into the function that closes the windows rather than what closes the locks. as the windows need a constant feed until they are done up.

that should work, however your windows dont go down when you unlock the car

This is true, but i do have a button in the center console to open the mirrors. lol

My first Zed had the function built into it with the full closure bit. It should not be difficult to work out. I would imagine a feed from the window fuction taken to the mirror switch should work fine.

Some alarms have a timed output included. You just need to set how long. Otherwise (as said above) knock up a timer cirucit - 555 chip comes to mind

Wanted this on mine , asked the toad alarm installer , and was told to use a relay linked to the door lock , so when the lock closes the mirrors close and open when door is unlocked , he said be cheaper than the part for the alarm ,
