steering column movement

I am about to fit new springs, shocks and a complete set of urethane bushings.

At the moment I can thee is about 8mm of movement in my steering column - yep the wheel move laterally, but only really noticeable if I'm giving it a hard time round a corner.

Does anyone know if replacement of the bushings could sort this ? Or is there something common that loosens / needs replacing ? Also have a slight knocking noise from front n/s wheel area when turning really hard right and when it goes over pot holes etc.

Last thing I want to do is fork out on new susp. kit to find that it needs to come apart again to fix the rest. Is there such thing as a steering tie bar for each side ?

thanks for any ideas

I'v ehad the exact same thing. Simple fix. I even posted it somehwere. Take off the bottom of the sterring column shroud. There are some bolts holding the steering column in place, loosen these as tightening them makes no difference. There are some packers either side of the column which you need to push it tight against the column, and then do the bolts back up, this clamps it all together. Bugged me for ages too, dead annoying!
