does this seem about right people. for TT's with a bit of heavy foot driving most days, (overtaking etc)

o2 sensors fine

MAF fine

injectors fine

timing fine

no fuel leaks

thermostat fine.

viscous fan new.

seems a bit low, works out to about 14MPG...... even a full tank 70quid, wont see over 175-180 miles. what are you people getting and if its better than mine, any ideas....

the car has just come from Z world on and on a conzult, no faults.

i may just have to live with it then, seems no one has a proper answer to this. thanks anyway gents.

I think the consensus is that assuming all is well with your Z and you drive "normally", you should get 16-18 in town and mid-high 20s on the motorway.

wont people's mph differ from others because of the size of wheels? i.e. the wheels will change the gearing of the car which will cause the speedo to be out which causes the milage you clock to be incorrect?

other things that may contribute could be as mensioned tyre pressure, or maybe big bodykits, spoilers, roof racks anyone? lol windows open often, etc etc... all these little things can alter the outcome of your mpg slightly, but the bigest contrubuting factor is of course we all drive on different roads to different places with more or less hills with different mods and different driving styles and techniques.

soooo..... im pretty sure everyones will vary quite alot.

I only get 25 max on motorway driving and thats a N/A , less round town

mines an N/A and I can do Portsmouth to Stockton-on-Tees on just over 3/4 a tank of ordinary unleaded and thats travelling around 75/80. juicier around town though............

When increasing the wheel size you fit lower profile tyres to maintain the same overall diameter, or as close as possible.

Your typically looking at 0-2% rolling circumference diameter difference.

the rolling circumference of my 18" seem a lot larger than the stock 16"s to be honest.

when driving at 80mph (on the clocks) the sat nav (which im told is accurate) reads 73mph, thats a fair bit of difference which over a lengthly period of time would make your mpg quite inacurate surley?? im affraid im no good with maths at all so cant figure it all out really, but im sure it makes a difference to some of the people's figures?

you tend to find most speedos read over by approximately 10%, which would agree with your figures.

increasing the circumference of your tyres would cause the speedo to read lower, since they turn fewer times for a given distance.

ah ok i see, well whatever mine does mpg, its crap whatever lol  i never expected to be good anyhow!

Mods please close this thread!

Why?? Its a good discussion on MPG which i for one am finding it interesting to read.

I completely agree Pete.

Coolq, why would you want the thread closing?

i think this is a good thread, with all of us having different views, it can be closed as per thread starters request, but i dont see why, it has been calm and nothing out of order.

I dont know what mpg im putting out, as i never have enough cash to fill her up, but what ever i do put in, goes fairly quickly, trouble is not the car its the owner having a heavy right foot..............And my fuel light comes on alot.

Just the zeds way of asking for more........

He wanted the thread closed because we weren't able to diagnose exactly what the cause of his high fuel consumption is. The fact that on another thread he's going on about having uprated turbos and 'well over 400bhp' should be a big clue.

If the turbos are pushing more air, then the engine will need more fuel. Even with only a modest understanding of the combustion process this much should be obvious. Some people....

I get roughly 3miles to the pound, 50 quid equals 150 miles. Don't know what mpg that is though?! Always use momentum or Vpower. Like pretty much all of us I didn't buy it for it's economy, it's thirsty but fun.

I always wondered why people buy big powerful cars then worry about the MPG, surely if your going to worry about MPG you should research the car first? super car performance comes at super car fuel consumption.

firstly gents, as stated above this thread was started in hope someone might have an answer to the question, but it seems people are just giving me their MPG and figures which im not interested in.

Secondly i am not worried about the fuel consumption as i didnt buy the car for its economical benifits, but having 11-14 MPG returned on a regular basis means something isnt right, when they should be doing at least 19-25 depending on driving.

the turbos will make little/no difference, as they are ran on low boost (under 10 PSI) and even with standard turbos, the car was very much the same.

If you all wish to carry on saying you get such and such in your TT and this and that in your N/A , carry on, but it bares no relevance to this thread question.

VODKASHOTS... i have done plenty of research on 300zx's and have owned a few, i've spent thousands of pounds on mine, so 200 a week on petrol really won't bother my pocket much, but looking from the above my car is significantly less than most in terms of MPG.

LEOr32-GTS- not the most intelligant of comments, you should really think about what you say before you publish it onto a public domain.

90 miles for 35quid isn't far off what i get as an average. I just thought this was the norm? As said, just let the thread run dude. Start another about possible reasons for poor MPG if you feel yours is way below average. Two good threads for the price of one, happy days.

Come on chap, you asked

So don't be surprised if people are giving you their mpg when you asked them to!

Now maybe, just maybe, the fact you're getting cr*p mpg has something to do with your other question 13 PSI with no boost upgrade??.

GIO. im gonna just give up, i have no idea on both. but both are very odd... gents im not here for a fight, and appreciate all your comments.

and then you tell people you didn't ask their MPG? right...

Er righto... Bigger turbo's running higher boost use less fuel - Fact. I read it here first!

Perhaps your engine is just a bit tight and the losses through internal friction are really high. If the tests done seem to suggest the fuel/air mixture is satisfactory and you aren't driving the car like a 17yr old, then there could be something causing a loss of efficiency between engine and wheels. Have you made sure you're releasing the handbrake before setting off?

Sounds about right under those conditions and saying your not interested in what others are getting !? well you asked what people are getting.

And you say you have checked all pipe work for jets, only need to check 2 if you know which to check ?!

You only spending £200 a week on fuel, you lucky person.. lol

have to, like using it daily and with a 70 mile drive a day, it gets to be an expensive hobby. in terms of SPG (smiles per gallon) i am very satisfied, i dont smoke or drink, so thankfully the only wasted money i spend is on fuel :-)

Leo- my car only has t28s, not much larger, but hey, like i said, im not here for an arguemnt or to be akward, sorry to all that have deemed my comments as rude/abrupt or whatever, they're not intended that way.

hope were all cool within this small 300z community!
