Must be an auto since you mention the power light flashing

Either;

There is a problem with the road speed sensor

There is a problem with the speedo head

There is a problem with the wiring from the speed sensor to the clocks

I would put money down that if you did an Auto tranny diag it would come up with a speed sensor failure.

All three systems (speedo, power steering, auto box) are running off that one sensor...

Ooh almost forgot, the power light flashing like that means that the auto ECU has a stored fault code/fault at that point in time.. I *think* the number of flashes means something, but it *doesn't* correspond to the table that goes with the auto diagnostic (which can be found on http://www.twinturbo.net)

My speedo stopped working, but it didnt effect the powersteering or the HICAS.

More than likely its the Speed sensor.

Doesnt the ignition light flash when the speed sensor stops working?

Also check the curise control, I dont think it will work if the speed sensor stops working. My one still worked when my dial packed in, which meant the speed sensor was still sending information just my dial stopped displaying.

Does your odemeter (Trip counter) still work?

Stuart

cheers 4 the help guys the z is auto and yes the trip has stopped.

the DTC results said vhcl-speed sen-mtr

& throttle posi sen.

speed sensor is £115 minus trade plus vat it looks intresting 2 fit aswell NOT????

If you've got a speedo convertor on there, just try unwiring the convertor temporarily.. It's worth a try and could save you mega.. they've been known to go wrong (mine had)...
