How long this thread will last who knows, someone get the stopwatch out

First off I would like to say this is not aimed at anyone, it is not a slanging match and would like it kept to just sensible comments and replies without it degrading into a mod slanging battle as that is far from what this thread is about.

I'd like to know why we are not allowed to mention or express opinions about banned members?

And I don’t mean making comment on if you feel their ban was right or wrong, just saying its a shame they are not here etc or even asking another member why they are no longer about, your jumped on by mods and told that kind of talk will get you into trouble.

Now the people being banned is the committee decision and final and that’s how it is, we accept that and respect their decision, completely fare enough.

But why on earth is the mere mention of any banned member’s name being treated as a hanging offence?

Now we have all seen the threads being dug up recently from "the good old days" and it can’t help to make you wonder if we are being a little too moderated these days purely because they "can" moderate a thread not because it needs it.

70% of the time if a (questionable) thread if left to run its course without comments or warnings from mods they end nicely and with no need for butting in, yet recently mods are jumping in with "Any more or this that or the other and your all in the sin bin" making a thread escalate where as if they said nothing it would have gone on quite happily for another page or two and then ended on its own without bad feeling being unduly caused.

Moderation is a very difficult subjective job, but is of course completely necessary, needed and even welcome.

I take my hat off to those who do it as it not easy. But I really do think its time for a sit down and rethink on what really denotes a thread in need of moderation or not.

I say this with the good of the club and it's existing and future member in mind not as a random rant.

I hope I’ve not pissed off too many people by posting it, and that it stays open and is taken in the meaning of it being written and without reading between the lines as there is nothing to read there.

unfortunately its the only way to deal with some members, they are given chance afeter chance only to throw it in our faces

me nor any other part of the fourm team have branded you as anything

i and we have enjoyed your threads, ive even said in one that i repsect you and the way you have earned yourself a great living

totally agree here. i feel that my name would be given a black tick if i ever made a derogatory remark on how the club is "managed" having been on the mod team i know how shit works.

all will not be fine , it hasnt from the point he AUP was decided to be stuck to the letter and no leeway was given, it all stemmed from when people used to say "but he said such and such and you didnt mod him"

imo there should be a little more leeway to the rules, the AUP was originally intended as a guide..

many people are friends with many members that have been "banned " over the last few years and friends that have left because of the mod team.....

even some who were moderators and left because they saw what was really like on the other side of the fence.

Anyway im off to bed before i get a black tick next to my name on the dark side.

night all

i know who your refering to and believe me, if you seen what she or possibly he called you, you wouldnt have typed that

jesus i feel sorry for you AL having to deal with this all night........some tough reading in this.lol!

The club just needs a fine balance between everybody, think certain members can get targeted due to previous things they have said etc and that can cause heated discussions etc etc.

Just needs to be abit of lee-way, nice balance and instead of jumping on people and saying this will be closed or im warning you bla bla bla.......then an adult discussion should be taken place or something. When threats of threads being closed i believe it just winds people up to 'look for a fight'which in turn = snotty threads/comments/bans etc.

pmsl no-need to feel sorry for me craig im a debt collector in real life and have to deal with worse than this lol, the threat of certian things is usually only given to regular abusers of the forum

started reading this thread and gave up half way through . we are all on here for one shared reason . we all have a love for the nissan 300zx . we are not man u fans or liverpool or rangers etc , just z fans . lets keep it about the cars and keep it real . helping each other out with car issues and help . i joined because i had very little knowledge about the 300 after buying one and still know next to nothing compared to other forum members . this is a source of learning for our cars and not anything else. we could all spend hours bickering with the other half about the price of fish but if we need to know why our cars are running like sh1t we come on here.

long live the zed

andy

No I disagree when you imply I should go elsewhere, its not personal I was stating an opinion. Trying to help the place, give suggestions based on my experience that could help the place. Instead I now feel like I am some kind of troble maker or something. I have only ever offered my help to this site and its members.

My time here so far has been enjoyable, im not looking to throw myself on a sword. But you cant get heavy handed and start getting personal whenever someone has an opinion or suggestion. Doing that will just cause more problems long term.

this thread really needs to be left alone until afte JAE when more mods are available to discuss things and other regular post-ers are available imo, then its best discussed as adults.

wise words craig

so your saying i havent discussed this like an dult

ive never suggested you leave this forum, i merely said you know where simon is if you prefer to be in a forum with him

if you have jumped to the felling that you are a trouble maker its only your mind and actions that have caused this

ive never called you a trouble maker, ive even told you i respect your posts??

Fair play Alan, you've handled this thread very well. No doubt it would of been immediatly moved straight to storage had others not been at JAE.

I do have issues with some aspects, its nothing personal at anyone involved though - Im just not like that, but I haven't commented becuase I've been here long enough to know that there really is'nt any point - sadly we're only the members.

so your saying i havent discussed this like an dult

I know we had words a very short while ago allan but i think you have handled yourself well tonight.:clap:

i also understand why craig said about other mods, if this is an opinion based thread then i think that other mods opinions would also be appreciated.

I'm not saying your wrong, just saying variety is the spice of life mate

well done mate:thumbup1:

Bloody Hell Stella!!

I've been watching this thread all of yesterday/last night and refrained from posting as I didn't want to say anything without considered reflection. More importantly - I didn't want to pay you a compliment that I may later regret. However, you little bugger, you have left me with no choice.....

WELL DONE Stellaz for the way you have conducted yourself all on you own through out this thread!! You have been calm and balanced without being threatening as has already been mentioned.

You have put a fair argument across for Simons ban - he's a Marmite kind of guy who I like but this not just a forum for me so life goes on and lessons get learned hopefully.

I have my opinions about the committee and how this place is run but sometimes times I think that if I mention anything I will get banned so what's the point! lol!

Well done to Takemetothepub for raising such a potentially controversial point in such a diplomatic way.

Stella, do me a favor and give Dave a little coaching, I know he's new but telling members to F**k OFF and calling some of them Tits is a little embarrassing for you guys on a thread that is being conducted so well.

I think some of you want to think you're lucky you don't own a Skyline, as both the GTR and Skylineowners clubs are very heavily modified, and always have been, over in the states some of the 300ZX clubs wont stand for 'off the wall' modifications either and you get shot down there for showing or discussion them... it's just the different way certain clubs see things.

I'm sure if well thought out club suggestions are put forward (and I really do mean 'Well Thought Out' ones!) then they could be looked at.

Most members come here to enjoy the facilities that the club offers, it's a shame that there are some tits that want to have everything their own way, and then think they are owned something when they don't get it and wont let it lie!! My personal message to them is.... "If you don't like it, then F**K O**!!" I've been here a long time now, and I've seen many members come and go, through various reasons, some have been a shame to see them go, and some it's Good Riddance! Members will always come and go, and this club will still be here......... So enjoy the site, enjoy your Zeds and keep this place running nice and smoothly!

My 2p's worth anyway :D

Dave - are you sure about this?? - not the kind of thing that will make a new member want to join the forum.

Anyway, remember folks - in the words of one of the worlds greatest film makers "Calm down dear it's just a commercial":tt2: (that threw you didn't it?)

It's only a forum so, I'm off to get under my car again!! Enjoy!

Andy

I think this is a great thread because a) it hasn't been closed (yet) and b) it's allowed people to let off some steam and cover some of them more shall we say controversial topics. A lot has been covered above and there's no need for me to repeat any of it (although I will also say well done to Stella for the way he has handled this!).

I think the true test will be when the rest of the mods sit down and read this (it's happened dozens of times in films - it looks like there's going to be trouble, will the big nasty U.S. army general press the 'Nuke' button and make it go away - but in the end he stays his hand and the problem burns itself out without the need to intervene heavy-handedly and everyone cheers, high-five's, and the hero ends up having sex with the gorgeous secretary/agent/etc. that he met at the start of the film).

TBH though I think the s**t-stirrers and trouble-makers tend to show themselves up in a thread and actually look a bit foolish in front of everyone when they might think they're being a bad bwoy. If this forum had the facility to 'unlike' or 'thumbs-down' a post (which it never will mainly due to it being difficult to manage and it being open to abuse) then those members whose posts offend/annoy others might get the idea that some of their posts are not welcome and hopefully change their tune without the need for mod intervention.

....

Firstly Andy, please read my post properly, it is aimed at the trouble makers. Of which I'm sure no forum would like to have as members if that's all that they are there to be.

Also what part of 'My PERSONAL message to them...." didn't you get? It's got nothing to do with being a Mod, as, if you do a search, you'll find that I've stated this exact same thing in the past!!!!

I second what Mental has said about Stellaz

The problem about being a Mod is trying to be diplomatic impartial as poss and to see things from both sides even when (for you to be doing this you would obviously be very passionate about the site)your loyalties will always lie in one direction. When I 1st joined I got in trouble for (as I see it ) Feck all

and after seeing Stellaz Sig thought no wonder he ends up getting a face like that !!! lol.I thought Feck this I wish i'd bought another Skyline this site is run by a bunch of rude tw@ts. As I love my car I have carried on and after reading a lot of posts (and the fact all is forgot and forgiven)I now realize even though i might not agree with how things sometimes are dealt with

the people who have been here so long do it for the love ! and for free

Without trying to tell people how to run this site this is what I feel

1)Just because we are new doesn't mean to say we are here to cause trouble

2)It might not be the 1st site we have ever been on

3)We might have a wealth of experience in other cars and clubs

4) we might well be here a long time

THIS IS NOT AN ATTACK ON THE CLUB OR ANYONE IN IT

Just my personal views and experience

P.S After all that I must congratulate Alan on the way he conducted himself yesterday on what for the club and himself is obviously a very contentious subject:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Well you dont get many threads like this lasting so long and its a refreshing change, I for one did like Si and think his ban for me will make this site less enjoyable, he had very good knowledge of the 300zx and one of the best examples around, with him and a few other people that have left / been banned there is a lot less banter and I find myself using the search button for when I need the occasional technical info and hardly ever posting anything else, if I did not want the use of the for sale section I doubt I would subscribe but this is of course just my point of view.

I would love to see a little less moderation which would hopefully open the forum up for a bit more quick witted banter, I understand as Stella has said its not an easy job, I applied to be a moderator a couple of times in the past when I used to post a lot but was never accepted, sometimes I feel glad thats the case as they do seem to get jumped on when they are giving up their free time to help run the place.

If i may....

.....

1)Just because we are new doesn't mean to say we are here to cause trouble

I don't think anyone has even implied this

2)It might not be the 1st site we have ever been on

And I think I can speak for the team here and state that that is the same for us as well

3)We might have a wealth of experience in other cars and clubs

Same as 2 above

4) we might well be here a long time

And we hope you are :D

THIS IS NOT AN ATTACK ON THE CLUB OR ANYONE IN IT

I'm sure no one would take it as such either.

P.S After all that I must congratulate Alan on the way he conducted himself yesterday on what for the club and himself is obviously a very contentious subject:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I think Allen did a fantastic job on this thread, as it seems that Gary and myself were the only other Mods in the vicinity yesterday, and I know I wasn't available all that much.

And on the other matter raised earlier regarding my own opinions, I'll keep them to myself in future as obviously as a Mod I'm not entitled to any!! :winkiss:

Blimey this thread is still here!

Bumpy road and we nearly fell off a couple of times but has all in all has been very well conducted.

My main point of concern and the reason this thread was started has been displayed here also which helps highlight my point.

The tit for tat posts between StelaZ and Nick32.

This above anything else on this forum is what causes problems. There have been posts by Nick32 here that dont really need any kind of reply and could just be left alone, yet StelaZ will reply faning the flames even more and escalating the situation, and of course Nick32 will then have to reply to StellaZ etc etc etc.

Now if it was user v's user then its fine, you will have to end with agreeing to disagree and just walking away. But because its user v's mod the user becomes a "trouble maker" and it will only end in "I will make sure I win becuse I have to power to make sure I win" by the mod. Post deletion, thread locking, thread deletion, user ban. And really the only crime is having a different opinion from a mod. Is that really a crime?

I would really like to see a little less moderation, and I think you'l find there is less problem threads as most will sort themselves out. To be honest most threads are fine til a mod jumps in and again we start with the user v's mod sinario.

Classic example.

"Im thinking of selling"

"Your not alowed to think about selling outloud someone might by your car and your not subbed"

This is not a for sale thread

It might be

But in 20 posts so far and its not

But it might be and if you carry on i'll close it

Ive been here ages your out of order

Thread closed

We have all seen them, and it would have been absolutley fine until the mod decided to flex the mod muscles causing a row.

We all know the rules and if it becomes a sale thread just close it with a reason, job done. Sometimes there are just blatent sale threads and again just close them like you do with a note and all is well.

Its a little bit like this.

Say every time you got in your car you were pulled over by the law.

You can only do 30 on this road.

I know thats why I was doing 29

Yeah but you better not do 30

I know thats why I wasnt

dont argue with me I'm in charge and telling you the laws!

Inforce laws that are broken, you dont need to remind us your a mod and overwatching us all the time. We know your there ;)

At the end of the day we try our best and its not so much as pulling over the driver doing 29 in a 30 but seeing a man with a screwdriver looking into a car he hasent broken any law so do we let it pass or stop and question I know what I would do

I'd prefer you went with sitting and watching and see what he does ;) act if needed and if not then no harm :)
