How long this thread will last who knows, someone get the stopwatch out

First off I would like to say this is not aimed at anyone, it is not a slanging match and would like it kept to just sensible comments and replies without it degrading into a mod slanging battle as that is far from what this thread is about.

I'd like to know why we are not allowed to mention or express opinions about banned members?

And I don’t mean making comment on if you feel their ban was right or wrong, just saying its a shame they are not here etc or even asking another member why they are no longer about, your jumped on by mods and told that kind of talk will get you into trouble.

Now the people being banned is the committee decision and final and that’s how it is, we accept that and respect their decision, completely fare enough.

But why on earth is the mere mention of any banned member’s name being treated as a hanging offence?

Now we have all seen the threads being dug up recently from "the good old days" and it can’t help to make you wonder if we are being a little too moderated these days purely because they "can" moderate a thread not because it needs it.

70% of the time if a (questionable) thread if left to run its course without comments or warnings from mods they end nicely and with no need for butting in, yet recently mods are jumping in with "Any more or this that or the other and your all in the sin bin" making a thread escalate where as if they said nothing it would have gone on quite happily for another page or two and then ended on its own without bad feeling being unduly caused.

Moderation is a very difficult subjective job, but is of course completely necessary, needed and even welcome.

I take my hat off to those who do it as it not easy. But I really do think its time for a sit down and rethink on what really denotes a thread in need of moderation or not.

I say this with the good of the club and it's existing and future member in mind not as a random rant.

I hope I’ve not pissed off too many people by posting it, and that it stays open and is taken in the meaning of it being written and without reading between the lines as there is nothing to read there.

Nick

Okay, but why cant the original thread be laid on for all to see so they can draw their own conclusion, plus any other evidence/happenings etc. I'm not just talking about Simon, any "event" like this. (For example the bust up which caused the "other" site) I dont think that the small post is really representaive as to the ins and outs of it. As ever I realise there are two sides for a story. But a statement prepared after isnt exactly showing the whole event.

I do find it a bit strange that this being a subscription website that people can be banned by a select few moderators, who arnt selected by the subscription payers.

Sorry Daffy

I meant the previous previous owner and before you say it I know I haven.t got them yet but that is just because we are in this week and not next :tt2:

Ive often thought it would be a good idea that every year / other year the subbed members should vote for who they want as mods.

Existing mods can run to keep their positions as well.

Like voting government, change keeps people from going power crazy

the thread was removed by mac

threads like the one in question are removed so when people are looking around wondering whether to join they arent reading such nasty threads, we are keeping it clean

as for the other site, it was started long before they were banned, they were banned for a number of reasons, main ones were breach of the AUP, also some of the things they did and say werent really helping either

as for being banned, it is all in the AUP about being banned whether being payed up or not, moderators dont have the final say on bans, it is put to the comitte for vote and discussion, we only do the deed so to speak

I think Si was like Marmite to many people on here because of how he was!

I didnt really know him but got on well on here with him, I personally think it is a shame what happened but I can also see that how he was at times caused his demise on here! If he has had fair warning & decided not to act then that is sadly down to him.

He was quite a character & added a lot of fun on the forum to many (& a lot of s**t too  )

Mods do a great job on here & there is always more to these things than you would think!

Like times before when these things have happened the world & this forum will go on just fine!

Well said, you never see mod appreciation type threads. :p

now that would be a first lol

Stella would get my vote!!

why thank you, but i bet there is quite a few people who wouldnt vote lol

It's all good mate. Now get back ON TOPIC! :cool3:

i must admit this is a good idea. fresh blood new ideas etc. havent said much but being a long term member and ex moderation team/club reo i thought i better say something.

there isnt much more to the story, anyone who has been on this forum for over a few weeks will have come across simon, and i bet there isnt a person on this thread that hasnt read something from simon and thought "that was a bit too much"

dont be fooled into thinking we banned simon just cause his face didnt fit, he was banned for a number of reason and the final straw was a thread that spin doctor started where simon got very personel and nasty towards spin doctor, MAC1 (cluc chairman) dealt with it himself and it was on this that it was disussed about the future of simon and this club, he was banned some time after the event as it was discussed thouroughly by the comittee and decided enough was enough and after a eunamous (sorry spelling lol) vote he was banned

He got personal with Mikey Bean! Do you want me to forward you the original unmoderated/edited thread? He in no way got personal with Spin Doctor! The thread in question was as certain somebody calling out Si suggesting he was doing something when he wasn't. Simon retaliated (which maybe he shouldn't have done) by calling Bean a moron.

thing is with changing mods all the time it takes some time to get to grips with things, people would just start to get a hang of things then they are being voted out

we have just asked recently who would like to become a mod as we had 3 positions to fill and we got very little responce to it, so even if it does go that way who is saying that the mods would change anyway

Dude broken-record.jpg

Please drop the who Si thing, there is a far bigger issue being raised here!

Yeah but if your doing a good job as a mod you'd stay in the job by being voted back in??

Thats what I was getting at! Subscribed members only of course, but a vote each year for the moderating team I think would be a good idea. Nomination only though (top 5/10 or whatever) An exisiting mod can nominate them selves for automatic entering into the vote. We could be modern and use first past the post so the top 10 (or however many we have) with the post votes get to be mods.

i diont need you to forward anything, ive seen and can see the thread

as said it wasnt just one thread, you seem hellbent on having your say and to be honest you know nothing about the ban, only what simon has told you

by the way, we have recieved pm's saying this place is better without him, and we have already had people renewing subs due to using the place more in a relaxed enviroment wothout worrying about not getting a screen full of abuse from simon

now please let it drop as you clearly have no idea on the whole events leading to the ban of simon

Really this should be raised for the AGM

Daffy

Thought a bit of banter off topic might keep all a bit more light hearted

+ was getting a bit bored with only 1 mod being questioned about the same sh1t the mods all know they have more in common with Hitler than they would like to admit so we don't all need to keep rubbing it in

As I really have nothing on topic to really say I'll keep daffy happy and shut up :tt2::tt2::tt2:

we have just asked recently who would like to become a mod as we had 3 positions to fill and we got very little responce to it,

When was that? Back in may? You did fill all the positions (although I think one stepped down) and had more than 3 applications. I know because I applied and was turned down. So you had at least 4 ;) LOL

Yeah but if your doing a good job as a mod you'd stay in the job by being voted back in??

i feel i do a good job, but a lot of people that have been moderated would think i havent

people would get voted in not because they are deemed suitable at being a mod but because they have lots of friends and their friends vote for them

That would not work though, cos if they were a bad mod they would have far more people voting for others than them ;)

should open up another thread and put it to the vote.

See whatever the out come is then the mods can forward it to the commitee and let them decide???

Agreed - although it may sound a good idea I for one dont think it would be one that would work too well!
