Totally agree with you. It's so rude when you're stood there waiting, and they carry on chatting s*!t as if you are invisible. I'm like you, i take my trade elsewhere. Well done to your Son.

I would have done the same and ignored you because a sale over the internet = no commission for the salesperson and yet still expected to haul the damn TV halfway accross the car park and get it in your boot. I used to hate doing that in one of my previous jobs and believe me the customer is NEVER right lol.

I understand what you mean mate - especially the lazy "yoof" employed on Saturdays......:2guns:

One Christmas I went to buy some wrapping paper and boxes of cards etc from Clinton's. I was the only customer in the shop as everyone else had obviously not bothered to get out of bed so early! Anyway I as I approached the counter with armfulls of stuff, the two dozy bints were too busy engrossed in their conversation about some party/bloke/etc etc to bother serving me.

I waited a couple of minutes before interrupting; to which one said something like "do you mind, we're talking!!" I'm normally a calm and rational person but I was so apalled at their attitude, that I just said "forget it" and threw my purchases in the air and walked out.....

It's a sad indictment on the general "me me me" attitude all too often seen throughout the country at the moment.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Bet Sir Charles never sold many sheep to the tourists

Now now, dont play the race card

Seriously though, none of you seem to know what its like to work in retail sometimes - maybe they were having a bad day or just picked up a shitty paycheck after working 50+ hours a week for the last month. Don't put all sales assistants into the same category (i.e 'Bloody shop assistants'). The internet is killing direct sales jobs money wise as there is no commission to be earned anymore. Its not their fault you couldn't be bothered to go into the store and have a look / listen to advice. Having worked in that area for a long time before I know how hard it was to scrape a living and I bet its even worse now.

If you bought in Currys or Comet you have been ripped off anyway so no need to give the staff grief too.

What a lot of nonsence , if shop assistances were more friendly there sales would increase , as for the they may have had a hard day ,or there pay packet was not to good , we all work hard , .as for the internet booking on line , i work hard and it saves running round to find a shop which has one in stock , the race bit is only in jest

Sales assistants would be more friendly if they wern't treated like robots by people jumping on their high horse if they are not served within 30seconds.

I'm glad the sheep comment was only in jest because believe me you don't wanna lose an England vs Wales arguement with me lol.

I must say though, £395 for a 32" TV (Phillips especially - very average product) seems very over the top price wise. Now that you have cancelled the order have you looked around more? You can get a 50" Plasma for £479 if you look hard enough.

Im Scottish, but born in the south lol, were coming to Wales in November so i will buy you a pint and we can talk about shops lol , the reason i went to the shop in worthing ,and wanted that tv is the fact we brought the same one for our other son in that same shop and i was happy with there service last month .so i went to the same shop in brighton and brought the tv , yes i know i could save £60 but im not one to shop around ,

Well I think the problem is pay(as im sure it is with every job) but retail is one of the worst especially for weekends as its no extra pay and so its only the teenagers that will do i.now if its a store of fair size and employs say over 100 staff then its gotta be very hard for a manager to make sure all the staff spend their working hours being productive, as the further it goes down the chain the less people care ie supervisors and lastly csa's who are getting minimum wage providing they are over 18 otherwise they will be getting very little pay and do it cause its easy and mum will stop moaning, so they could not care less about customer service or the company. Basicaly it will never get any better as the big companys will coninue to pay peanuts and therefore get monkeys! ( I am management at a big food retailer and worked from the ground up so i know what its like to be the lazy weekend staff :) but my store only has 38 staff so you will always get excellent service as i dont employ moron's lol )

Well like all of us who work they've got two choices If they don't like the pay then go and get anothdr job Otherwise deliver what you're paid to do or get fired Simple

I spend alot of time in hotels and restaurants when working away, Some of the attitude and appalling service I come accross is out of this world.

I remember one time, more staff than customers in a particular pub, i ordered my meal which was crap. It took 30 minutes to come it wasnt what i ordered that came, I was asked if I would like sauce i replied yes and it never came. Waited and waited for other courses and in the end brought my plates and shoved them on the bar. Dosy blonde goes "aw you dont need to do that" I replied well seeing as you're not doing it I thought I better had! As for desert, that was wrong on arrival as well.

Foolishly i had paid in advance, Id have walked out long before otherwise.

Never understood this tipping thing in restaurants either, and service charges they really get on my wick. I dont expect some extra money for doing my job, nor do we as a company add a certain %age on the bill to our customers for their pleasure of having us do work for them. I'm not allowed to make a fuss when im with han as she shouts at me lol. But there is no way I pay service charge when im on my own for the company and using my company credit card, not covered in my companies expenses policy ;)

Are you for Real? Your suggesting Atlast deserved to be treated like that becuase he ordered online. Anyway, he said they were rude and ignorant before they even knew he had ordered online.

and Im sure most of us have worked in retail at some point in our lives.

He was ignored in a store, deal with it. Customers are all to quick to dismiss sales staff asking if help is needed with a sale because they feel they are being 'hounded' yet when they actually want help they expect it immediately. Maybe the two were doing something productive but talking at the same time - it is allowed you know.

the two shop assistants were chatting about the night before down the pub , READ the THREAD i said they were chatting about the pub NOT work:detective:

Sales staff who hound and who ignore are not good sales staff. It should be the sales persons job (heaven forbid) to gauge if the customer wants to buy, or wants to browse. I did it for several years in a local computer shop and I admit sometimes you get it wrong but by being apologetic and accomodating you can fix the situation.

End of the day though in this time of austerity, any sales person should be working hard to keep customers happy - otherwise the customer will go else where and who'd have thought it they'll no longer have a job...

a) I did read the thread and all I seen was one-sided crying without taking to account any amount of different situations i.e maybe they were taking their lunch on the shop floor

b) I work in the motor trade and I would suggest you buy one off me instead of that high horse you are currently sporting

I like my high horse, I purchased it of a very Professional, Polite and helpfull salesman.

I hear they are very few and far between these days :p

I agree with both sides of the debate here. I think what we are missing is that a someone can tell if they are neglected on purpose or not.

Sometimes you walk into a shop and the assistant is sooooooo bored that they sometimes " mung out " and you could be waving a white flag and couldn't get their attention.

They are paid from the neck down and knew that when they took the job no matter what the rate is. These are not the rude type , just gormless......but harmless.

Then you have the ones that have acknowledged that they see you but choose not to rush, these are often the better paid ones and are expected to use a bit of brain. They have done the job sooooo long and you are just another punter. The focus is getting through the day, you are a by-product of the banter they have at work....and boy do they like to let you know it.

you can tell the difference between being served at Mc D****ds by a manager or by a trainee. OH! Yes ...there is attitude there also, as i found out not a week ago........

I've had

Having been an online retailer and worked in a store I can say that most of the views expressed are fair on this thread to some extent. Online sales can be good but when things go wrong, lost or delayed deliveries etc then people often turn back to shops as they can get what they want straight away usually and some online customer service is apalling if non existent that can get you into even more of a rage, I have seen people really take the P*ss at the end of a phone or via email and that is very bad, you would not (hopefully) treat people like that face to face.

Yes there are a lot of poor sales assistants it seems these days but there seem to be more dead beat people in society too. People should be booted out for giving bad service in my opinion. I believe local shops that offer great service will always thrive if they are not too far off the mark on price or service, people appreciate that. Businesses can play to a market, go for customers who appreciate that too and dont mind paying a little extra.

Yes there can be bad customers too, you can never please some people and there are a few that just want something for nothing, the amount of times I have been enraged with some people is unreal but there are ways of politely telling people to rock right off.

Not everyones cup of tea but dont forget your local markets too there are often loads of really great sellers that have been in business for years, look after their customers and are far cheaper than supermarkets in many cases.

Here is a real story about an elderly friend of the family that I could not beleive but is true. Guy goes to local Tesco store with his wife, he can not find a product, he then politely asks a shop assistant if they can tell him where the prodict is. Gets no response, guy asks the women the question three further times saying excuse me every time. Still no reply. Guys wife says to her husband you will have to speak up maybe she can not hear you. Guy asks again a bit louder only for the shop assistant to turn around and say I am busy, leave me alone, dont you get the message! I find this apalling for a polite elderly guy to be treated like this , infact for that case anyone.

Well what happens next is interesting, the guy loses his cool, takes his nearly full basket and emptlies it out in the aisle next to the shop assistant. Says to his wife lets go we wont be shopping here again and says to the assistant, you have got even more to be busy with now explaining to your boss why all this stuff is in your aisle. As he leaves the store goes to customer service and explains what has happened and why. They then goes home. Now I hope that assistant got in trouble for that, I also hope Tesco noted that and take more time to train their staff or support them so they can do their job and also give good service. I have usually found supermarket staff to be ok when you ask about something but it just goes to show it takes all sorts.
