Hey folks im just looking at the above car its an import in 1995 twin turbo manual. Was after pointers of common faults to look out for as im sure there is a few people on here that have had them or have got them.

Im a mechanic so you dont need to break it right down i was just after common problems.

Oh i do now that the active spoiler light is coming on but it isnt working if anyone had any clues on this and the passenger window isnt woring probably but i am more than capable of sorting the window :)

Thanks for the help

Marty

Yes, I had a Mk1 TT and confirm that they are a great car to drive, really quick for a heavy car and solid and I loved it, However they have the worst transmissions of any Jap sports coupe (and interiors), Getrag boxes are rubbish (both 5 and later 6 speed versions have syncro issues and the transfer boxes and output shafts just fall to bits. they would have made a far better car if they hadnt tried to be so clever and just made the car a rear wheel drive with an inline engine and gearbox and it would have been easier to work on.

But I've Digressed. with regards your rear spoiler problem. the "active aero" pack fitted to the GTO comprised the front AND rear spoiler but the front spoiler is often removed as it grounds when lowered. firstly you can check the rear spoiler lift mechanism by pressing and holding the active aero switch with the engine running and the spoiler should lift. if this is o.k. then you will need to jack up the front and check the front spoiler mechanism.

There are limit switches in the front servo motor that must make to give a signal back to the aero system to make the rear aero lift. Often this unit is either unpluged to halt the mechanism and stop the front aero lowering or the front aero is removed. Or the limit switches are fooked. Afraid its a grovel on the floor job to see whats gone on..........Good luck.

thanks alot i have been told about these switches failing and they go on ebay for 8 quid i think so not too expensive a job. I am quite pleased with this find as it is an import been in the country 3 years so the bodywork is in great condition and no rot.
