Side lights work, full beams work, dipped headlights do not. Bugger!

changed fuses, bulbs are clearly not blown - my boyfriend has looked at the wiring and has found some electricians tape on some wires relating to the lights, so suspect some sort of botched repair by previous owner.

Can I just check, when you depress the brake pedal, is it normal for a red light on the dash saying "lights" to come on? Or is this part of the above issue possibly?

Hoping someone at the meet up on Sunday will have a bit more knowledge of a Z than us will be able to point us in the right direction. In the meantime, no night time driving for me!!

main is a h1 bulb and dipped is H3c for j spec (from memory)

should be lots of threads on that one though, got a set of the h3c on ebay dirt cheap and there not bad to be fair, hid is the way to go for the Z though!

Cheers, not a fan of HID - always blind me when facing them oncoming lol! Not sure I ever wanna do anything electrical to this car, its a bloody mare!!

HID's are one of the best modifications you can make to the Z. The lighting differnence is like err...Night and day !

The 300zx has ellipsoid healights, unlike most other cars, which means fitting aftermarket HID's does not have the same scattered beam blinding affect like when people fit it to regular cars.

They are also a 2 min plug n Play fitment.

As a stopgap do your fog/driving lights work. You could either 1: use these when driving at night or 2: take the wires from the fog direct to the dipped headlights. Then use the fog button to switch them on. Not idealbut it'll get you back on the road at night.

Cool, thanks for that tip, will look into that - presumably fairly expensive though? I like the idea of a 2 min mod tho

I wouldn't have a scooby where to start - seriously I am a proper girl, just cannot do electrics at all. I will just keep her in the dark for now til I get more time to look into it or take her in somewhere. My fella will see if he can have a go. Ugh! Hate feeling like a novice! My MR2 was certainly easier to work on lol, and with a dedicated breaker 5 miles from home, I never had to buy a bulb!

Not as expensive as you may think, maybe speak with Danny at DTA for prices etc :)

no, they are just fake HID "look" bulbs.

Something like this :

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HID-XENON-KIT-H7-H1-H11-9005-HB4-H3-6000K-8000K-10000K-/300448418090?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item45f41f092a

Specifically you want a H3 6000k Kit.

It Plugs into your existing headlight connectors.

H3c are very hard to come by. You can fit regular H3 bulbs (sold everywhere), buy you the need to run an additional earth to them.

Does your Full beam come on when you just put your regular dipped beam on ?

At the moment no, think I've pretty much lost the front lights now..

sorry to hijack janus but i have been reading through this topic and i'm having a similar problem and felt it would be pointless starting a new thread when there is quite a lot of info on this already by ppl. Did you manage to get it sorted by the way janus.

At the moment on mine it looks like i have no lights front and back Dipped headlights brings up high beam only. i dont get any light indication up on the dash for the main headlights or sidelights but i do get High beam up. will check the fuses under footwell tomorrow morning. I have HID's on. Anyone come accross this. had a look at the electrical circuit and could ony conclude it was the switch whatever it is it is effecting all the normal lights. Fog light switch led does not come on either when you press it.

Hope this is a simple fix.

Cheers in advance guys.

Thats whats happening to mine mate.

Check all the wires going into the relay box in the engine bay, put the lights on and give some of the wires a wiggle or tug see if anything happens?

Ho probs Hodgey - have finally got my new bulbs off eGay but I suspect that I have an underlying electrical fault as someone has used 1 of the brake lights as a fog, so the wiring has been bodged big time. Will be fitting the new bulbs this evening, but to be honest, a few people on here have got HIDs from eGay for less than £30 - I might just do that.

By the way, it was when I was fiddling with my lights, and I flicked from dipped to full beams that I lost my headlights completely and so far they've not come back on......
