Nismo/nissan motorsports usa

Does anybody know the difference between Nissan Motorsports Japan (NISMO)and Nissan Motorsports USA (apart from the obvious geographical difference)

 

 

From what I can gather Nissan Motorsports USA was the old Nissan Competition Department which is not part of Nismo (Nissan Motorsports Japan).

 

Are they just seperate departments of Nissan???
