its not the point of a Z MPG,

i only got good mpg on my zed because i had to, low on fuel money lol:blushing:

stuck it in overdrive at ~80 (late at night) it got me to Bolton and then lasted a few trips to work, think it was just under 350 miles, however by the sounds of it my zeds fuel gauges don't read right, my reserve tank light comes on it will only go 5miles at most.

i know because I've had to get it towed to a fuel station twice...

i have to say it was the most boring drive ever.

on a normal trip it would do 275-300 to a tank, I've owned 2 zeds both TT auto and they have both done this kinds of miles per tank, i actually don't know how you lot are getting only 200? i thought i had a heavy foot?

It's one of those things, I can drive like a saint and acctually see decent MPG out of it considering the horse power - eg. I can do 45 miles with 15 pounds @ 1.25 per litre.

or, you can start playing and acctually count it by how many 'plays' you have left before you run outta fuel :p . Worst I've managed so far was 20 miles to 15 pounds of fuel but that was down to proving a point with my mates Aston Martin db8. :D

Just as a test whilst driving to Scotland my freind and I both brimmed our tanks at the same time, both with the same baggage and 1 girlfreind each , he was in his new 3.2 Boxter :asshole: and me in my TT, the outcome was almost identical, we both arrived and had a few days travelling round and both booted it together, so quite a fair test really, We then brimmed again and to our amazment i put about £4.50 more petrol in, we found we were doing approx 27mpg, mostly motorway but quite a few mountain roads too, so not so bad really :thumbup1:

45 miles with 15 pounds @ 1.25 per litre = 17mpg !

I'd not consider that decent mpg if your driving like a saint.

23mpg - mixed driving

30mpg - steady 80mph motorway trip

Are auto's more economical than manuals due to longer gearing?

Normally auto's are heavy on fuel, but then not many are geared for 200mph+

My old sierra xr4x4 would regularly drink 55ltrs of petrol befor getting to 200 miles. That works out at less than 20mpg, so as far as i'm concerned the Zed is very economical

Really  didn't realise it was that bad! When I drive like a saint I really, really drive like a saint too!

What the hell does it manage when you're booting it?

not had my zed long, but im doing around 70 miles to £20 ?

found two fuel leaks today so hoping to get abit more from her now :)

I would think that'll help no end, make sure your tyre pressures are good too:detective: (if you havn't already).

i have staggerd fit 18s, what pressures are you running?

I run a minimum of 30psi in mine for normal driving conditions, more if I'm on a long motorway run or 3 up. Have a slow puncture though (or possibly a bad seal between rim and tyre) so have to put air in it every 3 or 4 weeks as a matter of course - loosing about 4psi normally.

Poorly inflated tyres cripple fuel economy, so worth checking regularly. Normally the manufacturer will put the standard operating window on the tyre itself - i.e: 25-45psi. Then its down to personal preference. If its wet I'll drop a few psi out of the front and put a few extra in the rears:devil2:

Fairly sure Standard reccomended Tyre pressures are about :

32f , 34r

+/- 2

But the answer to your fuel usage is far more likely to be down to Fuel leaks and/or running Rich. o2 sensor failure is very common. Other typical causes can be Temp sender and Fuel pressure regulator, as well as the car running in safety mode, which many are without the owners realising.

When I had my Auto TT converted to a manual I noticed a massive decrease in fuel consumption, talking 40 miles + extra a tank with my normal driving as I could select the ratios i wanted. Biggest problem with a 300zx auto is because its so wide geared as soon as you touch the throttle it changes down when it really doesnt need to. It was even better on the motorway! (And so much faster ;) )
