Hi All,

I'm looking to get new shocks and springs all round (also been advised to get polyeurethane bumps too whtever the hell they are)

I was going to get 2nd hand ones first off but i'm enquiring about the prices of new ones. i know aftermarket ones can be cheaper but most of those are for lowering the car which i'm not too keen on doing unless i have no choice.

Any help and advice is appreciated. Looking for the cheapest i can get. Also, is it worth replacing the bushes at the same time?

My car is a J-Spec 1995 auto N/A

Cheers

Peter

Hi,

The only thing I would say is that shocks and springs all round can be VERY expensive, and from a personal point of view I would only spend that kind of money if I had 100% confidence in the car and was planning on keeping in medium-long term.

How long have you had the car and what are your plans.

It's just that you will not get a single penny back, so if you really need to change both springs and shocks (any reason?) then there are plenty of good second hand items around at significantly less cost.

Depends what you call very expensive, coil overs can be had from as little as 5-600 quid, stock shocks work out around 350-400 all round (not bad!) and springs, well they rarly go wrong but can sag or crack so you could replace with lowering springs for 100-200 all round.

Hardly ground breaking money, and I have to say if I was looking at a car which was boosting all new shocks and springs/coilovers I would be much more inclined to buy it. My M3 evo had original shocks and springs on it when i bought it, handled interestingly at speed put it that way, i replaced just the shocks with oem spec parts and my god what a difference.

The guy who came to test drive it couldnt believe how good it was and he told me on the day it was the reason he bought the car, at good money too!

Bugger, might go the second hand route then. Just the shocks i need really. the springs are fine.

Got one leaking slightly on the front and one on the back. :(

Contact MJP for a price on all 4 new OEM shocks. Don't mess around with 2nd ones, it could end up costing you more.

Unless of course you know of someone selling some that are in real good order and not very old.

Most Z's are in need of a complete suspension overhaul ! Believe me when I say that something like 80% of the 100+ Z's I've worked on and driven over the years have very tired suspension.....and most of the time the owners have no idea, as its all they are used to.

The original Stock items are way past their useable lifespan years ago. Unless you already have proof of new suspension upgrades in the recent past then every owner should be considering an Overhaul.

Stock struts are about £200 for pair of fronts, £100 for pair of rears. Not sure about stock spring cost.

A very popular and reccomended setup is KYB Gr-2(non-adjustable) or KYB AGX(adjusable) struts with Eibach pro Springs. Good ride, nice handling and very minimal drop.

Very good value for money too :

Eibach Springs - £180 + shipping http://www.z1motorsports.com/product_info.php?cPath=6_8&products_id=127

GR-2 -Full set - £180 + shipping http://www.z1motorsports.com/product_info.php?cPath=6_8&products_id=4253

or

AGX - Full set - £280 + shipping http://www.z1motorsports.com/product_info.php?cPath=6_8&products_id=126

You can also find them cheaper on Ebay.

They will completely transform the way the car Handles and rides over a tired stock setup.

Hi mate

i just had a look at mjp who seems to be the best on prices round here

The last time he qouted for a set of rear shocks he wanted £130 inc postage

does £80 posted sound reasonable (they will cost me about £10 to post)

as i said they are new but they have been fitted to my car which im restoring. i have a set of coilovers now so i wont need them.

Let me know and we can go from there

Pete

look on ebay atm theres a bunch of RSR springs (seriously sh*t hot, my mate had them on his GTT r34) for 60 quid per set brand new!
