My zed's been sat on axle stands for the past 8 months while ive been doing alot of work to her.

I've got everything reconnected, all the fluids replenished but when i turn the key, the engine is turning over but not firing.

The battery was making a clicking noise but once i put a booster pack on it, the clicking stopped.

I disconnected the fuel supply pipe after the filter to make sure i was getting a fuel to the engine. All Ok there.

The only other thing i can think of, is that the spark plugs arent wanting to play.

Anyone offer any advice?

As you have already checked the fuel supply a few other things to try:

Remove the fuel pump relay.

Check for injector clicks (screw driver to the injector and handle to the ear).

Next check the plugs are firing (Remove a coil pack and the plug and earth it out on the plenum, crank the engine to see if it sparks)

I would say your problem is between the PTU and the CAS especially if you are getting fuel through. Make sure the connections are 'clean' on both the above, its usually the CAS connector that gets sh1tty through condensation. When you say you have fuel coming out of the filter, is it continuous ? as the pump will cut out again if the ignition system has a fault. To test, put the pipe from the fuel filter in a bottle and crank the engine over. It should keep pumping to fill the bottle.

id put my money on the CAS! as fuel is coming in but if its not getting a signal from the crank it will never fire :) Wiggle the plug and clean out if necessary and Fire the car up :)

Thanks very much guys. I'll get to it ASAP.

I put 5 gallons of super juice in it last night as i thought the fuel might have evaporated.

Brilliant. Thanks very much.

I know this is gonna sound completely amateur (i normally leave all engine work to jimmer!) but am i right in thinking that the spark plugs can be accessed by removing the coil packs and they live underneath?

your spot on mate and for the back two plugs you will have to remove the balance bar to get at them

Cheers gary. I was gonna have to remove the balance bar to change my coil pack brackets anyway so i might aswell check the plugs while im there.

Before you renew anything, how quickly is the engine turning over, if its a bit sluggish even with the booster on give the battery a bit of a charge and try it again.

Its turning over pretty quickly with the booster pack on it. Im hoping if i can get it started, the battery should recharge enough to cope with the next time i wanna start it.

Shrek, just a quick pointer.

When you take the balance bar off to remove the rear plugs. Remove the o rings that sit between the balance bar and the plenum on both sides. These are easily missing and then fall out when replacing causing boost leaks that are hard to locate.

A little semi red on both sides of the o ring when refitting will save you a lot of hassle ;)

Semi-Red?? I usually put Molycote (silicone based grease) on o-rings at work.

Sorry

Semi hardening red instant gasket ;) Halfords sell it for a couple of quid for a tube. I used to use it for all metal to metal joins that didn't have a good seal gasket. i.e. balance bar, water hard pipes, water pump etc.

I GOT IT!

I started tonight by cleaning each of the plugs but it made no difference. Then when i was about to start playing with the CAS, i noticed that the PTU is a series 1!

(That would make sense considering that the engine in my series 2 is from a series 1!)

So i disconnected the PTU, checked and cleaned the terminals and reconnected it. Put key in the ignition and hey presto.....one running engine!

Thanks for all your input fella's, much appreciated.
