The cambelt on my newly acquired Z was changed back in 2005, 40k miles ago; I know the book says 6 years and 50k miles. I was planning to change it in the autumn, as it needs to be off the road for a good few days for other work to be done. I plan a few longish motorway journeys over the summer perhaps putting 1500 - 2000 miles on the clock.

 

Is it worth taking the chance?

 

This may seem a daft question but is there any warning before it snaps, noise vibration, performance etc.

If your in the position to get it done, then get it done, the cambelt is something that should never be ummm'd or r'd over although you have still got some time left before it's due a renewal

no warning mate, just a travesty when it happens!

The timing belt is a 60k mile service item ;)

 

If the belt has not been contaminated with oil then it should be fine based on when you last had it replaced.

 

At 120k it is recommended to replace the tensioners, pullies, water pump etc

You wont enjoy driving your zed thinking the belt could snap......so just get it done while off the road, no point in skipping corners!

Its not like theres no history of when it was done!

 

Hey, maybe just get it done every 10,000 miles just in case!!

if you got any doubt in your mind then change it!
