Im getting some strong petrol smells from the front when engine is running. no visable leaks however. Any common areas I should check.

 

Is there any hose kits available. maybe I should just renew as much as possible.

check around the fuel lines and around the fuel pipe under the throttle linkage tighten all of them up

I had this problem a while back. Fitted a set of braided lines from Dan at DTA. Did the fuel filter at the same time and not had a single whiff since.

I had same problem about a month back the smell used to burn off after a while, it failed MOT on leak it was coming from fuel pressure regulator on top of engine passenger side,got one from zedworld about £20 had no problems since and passed MOT.

With a cold engine, turn on the ignition for a few seconds to get the fuel pressure up and switch off again.

Then just follow your nose around the top of the intake plenum - you should find any leaks quite quickly, and with the cold engine you have a better chance of actually seeing any sprayed fuel as it won't evaporate so quick...

 

If the hoses are old and possibly cracked then tightening the clips will only help for a short time.

 

From memory there are a lot of possible clips any one of which might be the cause:

- 4 by the battery

- 2 on the rail

- 2 for the FPR

- 2 for the damper

- 2 on the fuel filter

 

Get yourself some Gates 8mm fuel hose from your local motor factors - but stick with the standard clips.

Alternatively, (preferably even?), you can re-pipe with less connections. Kits are available, like the DTA one RH7470 pointed out.

There is a 2" piece of hose with 2 clips on at the front of the plenum under the throttle linkage in the centre, it joins the two halves of the fuel rail together. Its the most difficult to reach. Smithys/DTA's Fuel kit includes replacement but Zcentres does not.

 

If you do source your own fuel hose instead of buying a kit, then ensure its the correct hose - labelled either as Fuel Injection or High pressure fuel hose, very important.
