hi all . if you have ever gone on the ozzy owners site you may have seen my post on there . if not here goes .

firstly remove all seals from car , around doors , targa tops .

clean all metal as clean as clean you can get it .

fill your bath with hot water and a load of fairy liquid and throw all the seals in. when i done mine i left them in for about 5 hours and just kept topping up the hot water . all of the crap that has built up over the years in the seals

(drain holes running through the seals)will soften and with a soft cloth can be cleaned out . a good method is to take the shower head off and blast water through the seals .you will be amazed at the amount of sticky black crap that comes out of them . there are several little drain holes and channels in the rubber . all of these need cleaning thourally . the cleaner you get them the better . once all the rubbers are clear of sticky stuff they will regain a lot of their shape . leave to dry 100% . when re-installing seals be sparing with the sealer as you dont want to block any of the drain channels again .

before i did mine it leaked like a sieve , now its jet washer proof .

the sealant i used was made by wynns and stays stuck unlike normal silicon which lifts after a while .

forgot to mention in original post . each time the car gets a clean i give the seals a wipe over with a black wax specially for seals . keeps them looking nice and helps keep them supple .

........my dry arse thanks you for this one, iv been trying all sorts of stupid crap - this is an absolute winner, i used to have a puddle on the seat everytime it rained, now its as dry as a bone! WIN!

another tip, if you have tried everything and still cant figure out why its leaking. at the leading edge of the targa on the metal work, is a thin metal strip right by the rubbers edge, on both sides, check to see if this hasn't started to lift. my silver zed leaked like a $&*"$ because the little tiny metal strip lifted and was letting water into the targa its self. and dripped down inside onto the plastic, where it ended up on the seat, and eventually the floor. were it ate through the floor.

For those who have had excessive water leakage onto the drivers and or passenger seat. id suggest taking out the seat, and lifting the carpet and checking the status of your flooring under the seat for excessive rust.

took the seat out to check......no rust..... its all still sticky black underseal (which stinks) seems the prat who did the the floor welding thought it would be a good idea to unerseal the whole floor plan............FLOL!!

Ahhhh i ahev tried everything i have even tried cleaning them, its still leaking, although i didnt rer seal them, i didnt realsie you had to.

Can i use sikaflex or is this overkill. Will plain clean sealant do?

and where do i put the sealant?

Nice one. Quick question for you.

Once you have finished with the bath and refitted all your seals. How do you stop your wife kicking your butt becuase of the state you left the bathroom in with all that black sticky mess that dosn't seem to come off?

my leaking roof is really really pissing me off :( so do i have to seal them with clear silicon? and where abouts on the seals?

Every bolt hole, and especially the rubber ends, which you can only truly access by stripping it right down, incidentally this seems to be where the targa rust starts too as water gets trapped. erm.. also behind the end rubber adjustment screws.. for the last two mentioned use the butyl sealant ( sikalastomer-710) bolt holes use silicon.

on the rear of the seals at the top where it starts at the targa there are several flat edges that sit against the paintwork . some of these are only about 2-3mm in width . put a small amount of sealent on all of the faces . normal silicon sealant is no good as it will lift in no time . i used wynns black gasket sealent . it comes in a pump tube and costs about £8. also on the targas themselves where the flat rubber section is at both ends lift the rubber as much as possible and get as much sealant as possible in there and sqeeze flat . dont press the seals down tightly . just put your targas back in and close up . this way you will get a tight seal between the targa glass and top of the rubber seal aswell as getting a good seal between the rubber and metalwork .

Dumdum is what you want to use, sure that's the right name for the stuff.

It's the same stuff that comes with the seals if you buy them new, also the same stuff that comes on a roll with 99 spec rear corner lights...
