What is this please

This is located at the back of the engine and has a small plug at the tapered end. Plug very green inside and very loose.

    AIV... Air Idle Valve, adjusts the rate of air entering the engine via the ecu for a stable rpm @ idle, or as Mikael stated above. :)

    it's the cold start, works on the same princaple as a central heating room stat. it has a bi-metal srtip in it, when its cold the plate moves, opening up a hole to the plenum, letting more air in and raising the idle. once warm the strip closes the hole and the idle drops to the desired pre-set speed set by the idle adjuster.

    I have a spare one of these already off the engine in good con, pins are good, came off my N/A and worked fine before the engine blew.

     

    I also have a spare Idle adjust unit too.

    Hi, can I ask to hold it for me for a few days. I seem to have disturbed something by replacing the plugs on the coil packs. i WAS IDLING HIGH. found the plug at the end of this idle unit was very loose and green inside. So cleaned the plug, bit of grease, now car will not idle at all.

     

    Am in Crawley area if your near I can pick spare up.
