Yeah Thank's thats kind of the issue i'm having

According to Microsoft, if your RAM exceeds 2GB, the excess amount will be used only by Windows kernel and therefore the report from Control Panel is correct in that it is reporting only the usable RAM for applications :(

I just dont want to upgrade to 64bit xp or w7 yet !!

I've tried a forced 3GB switch by editing the boot.ini file by opening the "System Properties" and looked at the ram timings in BIOS

all to no avail so apart from upgrade i think it's just a 32bit xp issue ?? :(

Chris

As far as i know yes its just a 32bit XP issue :(

Few 'copies' of Windows 7 that work on the web. Trying to get my free copy from the University :P Not that im even going to use it anyways as i still prefer XP

Same here i love xp :) i dont even mind upgrading to the 64bit version, but the sp i have is a custom one put together by someone i know so it has a fair few vista elements i'd want to keep like core monitor tools etc,

Will have to have a think and see if can have the upper ram limit confirmed for the 32bit version

Thanks mate :)

Just found this on a pc forum basic but confirmed i think :/

XP doesn't really see more than 3GB.

2GB is enough to make it smile.

Vista on the other hand will take almost as much as you can throw at it, and use it.

i have 8gb of ram as at the time i built my pc i bought 64bit vista but it was so crap i went back xp 32bit and it only sees 3 gb of my ram, will W7 be the same or not?

From what i'm reading win 7/ 32 bit will struggle to see more than the 3.0gb?

but a 64 bit sys, xp, vista, or 7 will recognise all of it :)

Im trying to get that 100% confirmed though by the way as i dont really want to go to a 64bit system unless i must, posted a few things on pc related forums

not very good replies so far though

will let you know what i find out :)

Chris

32 bit Operating Systems only address about 3.2GB and wont use any more but may see it (depends on BIOS I think)

64bit Windows 7 is pretty good from the few times I have used it.

That is the exact conclusion i come to after reading through a few forums lol, thanks for the conf though mate !

Looks like will have to make the jump to windows 7 64 bit
