I'm after a little bit of advice.

I've recently bought my first SLR, a Nikon D50, and often go to trackdays at knockhill and local rally stages.

The only problem I have is the lense aint upto much which came with it.

Im looking to get another lense specifically for motorsport.

Anyone got any ideas?

my mates a photographer and wanted to make himself a wee £140 so i landed it.

Came with the 18-55mm but ive been told its no use for motorsport

just edited my post above with some pics, hopefully that'll prove him wrong. My mate has borrowed my camera before for track days, and again used the 18-55. I'll try and find some of his pics.

Bargain for your camera by the way

70-300 is usually regard as a good range for motorsport, i had some reasonable success with a cheap sigma one, when i say cheap it was around £170 rrp and was ok but not perfect.

Cheaper ones will need good light and and a fairly good autofocus system. Not sure how good the D50 is but generally its best to get the best glass you can afford.

nice find, prices have come down a lot since I last looked! get it bought!!

You into your photography then mikey? or just starting seriously? get a tripod if you haven't already got one, makes a huge difference to your pics.

I love my D50, heres some examples..

Nice looking pics them, Baz :D

I bought a point and click Fujifilm S5600 almost 2 years ago. It was ok for static shots but not upto much for anything moving so i decided to move onto an SLR and it just so happened that my mate had a d50 lying around that he no longer uses.

70-300 would be good as someone already suggested, as for which one to go for... what's your budget?

My son does photography alevel and he uses a Nikon D90 with a sigma lense which is 70mm-300mm and he got it off ebay brand new for £100 and it auto focuses
