Windows came back but the WHOLE Docs and settings of eveyones profile was GONE!!, not renamed or moved, Gone!!

Could live with it except its got all my wifes invoices ready for the end of tax year submission this sunday...Dam!!!

Any ideas any one as to what went wrong and can i recover any thing..

Oh dear, you could plug the hard drive into another computer (set it as slave or cable select(CS)) and use some file recovery programs, i got most of my stuff back that way. You could also give it to a professional company and they could get it back for you, but at quite a cost, oh and it takes along time for them to do it.

Cheers Murt, trying 1, thought about 2..i'm not that rich....

Thx

Want a list of programs to help mate? I take it you have another PC there?

NTDETECT
Isnt that a Boot Up Error? Plug her into another comp, Copy the files onto another Drive or make a Virtual Drive (partition the drive) and Install new windows on new partition leaving old stuff safe and sound

i was just about to say you could pull the hard drive and connect it as a second on another pc and extract your files.

always have atleast two partitions. windows on one drive and important files on the other. that way you can always re-install windows without losing anything.

i quite often want to move 30gb games folders (mmo's) from one pc to another (just installed win 7 ultimate) transfering via my network or from usb 2.0 to usb 2.0 takes so long and so i pull the hard drive with the stuff i want and plug it into the other pc, reboot and good to extract and copy.

easier when you have SATA 2 connectors as not all motherboards have support for 2 x IDE

Its a bit late now but this is why you should backup your PC. However as the others have said try connecting it to another system as a slave drive you may be able to recover the data. if that fails then you can try some disk recovery programs. If that fails......you may and i have done this once or twice put the disk in a Linux system and use the 'dd' command to copy the partitons to a new disk then run chdsk or the like on the new drive. its worked for me in the past as a last ditch fix, but it not every time.
