Never been in one, but I reckon If I could only have 1 car (ie No Z and No Daily driver), then it would be an M5 !

I drive a regular E39 5 series as my daily driver and its an absolutely brilliant car, owned a E34 for 6 years previously too.

The M5 and E39 range in general was voted as best car in the world by just about everybody during its production run.

Was that because only old people drive them and do 60 in the outside lane and refuse to move?

I took one for a test a few years back when i was looking to get one, it just pulled effortless from any rev range and was ridiculously smooth.

Downsides are sub 20 mpg avg, servicing is pretty steep also.

I would only buy a face lift model sep 2000 i think was the change, has better steering wheel, widescreen satnav and vanos issues solved.

Cheap ones are the ones without nav and the heritage leather which looks awfully old fashioned compared to the nappa sports seats.

They seem to have gone back up in price over the last few months also.
