Think you wil find out that if a spare is present it has to be legal but you dont have to have a spare for the test, The tester should still check for this hence the need to be able to open

ย

No, The spare tyre is NOT part of the MOT Test, so cannot fail you on it.

ย

Thts one rule I know......As told to me by MOT tester

ย

....and I've also checked in the MOT Manual ("This inspection applies to Tyres fitted to the road wheels only. The vehicle presenter should be informed when it is noticed that there is a defective tyre on a spare wheel.")

ย

.....and on the AA website "A spare tyre is not a testable item in the MOT test, though the examiner may draw your attention to an unserviceable item as a matter of courtesy."

It did used to be, but evidently not anymore.

well the spare has never been a testable item in the 20 odd years I'v been testing LOL! ;) :wheelchair:

It is however a legal requirement that if you do have one that it is in a roadworthy condition!

Often MOT & legal requirements can differ!

Yep, Construction & Use regulations and MOT regulations are two different sections of legislation. You can drive out a garage with a brand new (and legit) MOT, get stopped and have the car put of the road for items such as oil leaks, tinted windows, insecure battery.....its a funny old world
