Hi,

I have been thinking of buying a interior trim kit to replace my tweed. The long term plan is to change the tweed panels for red and then black leather seats in the future. If I can find any that aren't ripped  My question is where can I buy the trim panel kit? I remember them being on ebay a few months back for around £60 but haven't seem them again.

Also are the decats on ebay any good for n/a car? The seller is 2fast2cool from memory. Now my car is loud :) so is it going to be undriveable and will I get pulled by the cops for any reason. Its a pre 92 car so mot doesn't matter im just thinking the noise lol! My car has been known to set car alarms off when I start it and make people jump in the car park lol!

Any advice welcome

Hi The ebay kit is still available, a little more expensive than before.

I have an N/A I originally bought the decats from 2fast2cool, they were loud, fitted around my autobox ok, i sold them on to another member with an auto and he had problems fitting.

In the end i bought the decats with silencer from the zcentre , definitely a bit quieter, but to be honest i wished id have left them alone, cos the drone is annoying inside the car.

Just my opinion

Have you got a link for the trim kit m8? I can only find the dash trim kit

I will have to have a look at zcentre decats as it might be a better investment. Like you say the car can get a drone inside the car. Its alright around town but as soon as you sit at around 60 - 70 the drone is unbearable. Thats why I got a good sound system to drown it out lol!

Cheers for the advice

I bought the catback also from these guys, i find the drone at about 40mph, when you get up to 70mph and back off the acc, its not too bad.

The cats act as a silencer and the original back boxes are silencers, so by doing a full decat on an N/A you are basically losing all your silencers.

There is a rear baffle mod on the single outlet pipe that eliminates the drone, which i will be doing when i get my garage cleared, so i can get the car backed in to get out of this poxy weather.

When you want to just floor it and be heard it does sound nice, but when you need to pop out for some fags after midnight, you feel yourself cringing a bit with the noise, but hey ho:D

I got this trim kit, and is great value for money, good fit, (if fitted correctly) and has a soft feel. The only other option is a leather rettrim which is much mre expensive. Check out my ride section for piccies.

I was hoping somone would say they have bought one :) How long did it take to arrive? Thinking of getting it before xmas if possible. I would like a retrim on my seats but can't justify the price and like you say if it feels okay and looks good it will do for me lol!

Any colour advice? I was thinking red trim with black leather seats.

Talking of seats etc is there any way to repair leather seats? I have a chance to buy some locally but the drivers and passengers are badly worn. Scratches, tears you name it, its got them :) He wants £150 which is a lot but its the first time I have seen any for sale near me. Are these leather repair kits any good?

Cheers for the link

hi mate.

i might be selling mine soon.

they are cream leather, the driver seat is a little scruffy, im going to be giving mine a full retrim, i think it will be black leather with gray alcantara panels etc.

i live in ludlow by the way

Mate stick a post up in the items wanted - i did and got a full set front and back, the back seats were mint, and both drivers and passenger front seats were in a not bad condition at all - tiny bit of scuffing and 1 little rip on the stitching of the drivers. All for the princely sum of £60 (Thank you Graham :bow:) Its got be be worth a shot as i'm sure there will be others out there looking to reclaim a bit of garage space.

Dougal200 can you pm me if you do sell them. I don't think I have ever seen a cream set leather seats before in a Z. Was it an option from new? Would be interested as you are close.

Didn't think of putting a wanted ad up  Good idea Pablito. Will do it now as you never know someone may want rid of a set nearby. Was £60 for the full set? Absolute bargain of the year :)

Yeah, i know Groover did me an amazing deal - he even offered to drop them off to me for an extra 30 quid - what a legend :bow:

no problem mate.

cream was an option on jap spec. i think mine have been recovered at some point though.

feel free to drop me a pm etc any time if you are having any problems. like you say im just down the road and there aint many of us round here. ive sorted most of the common issues on my car now so im quite clued up if you need some help.

got a nice and quiet exhaust for sale soon as well

If I was to buy a decat what would it do to the fuel economy? Can you attach the lamba sensor back on?

Is it that simple?

The Lamba/02 sensors fit into the headers, and are not affected by a decat.

The stock decat pipes do have a couple of sensors in, but these are cat temperature sensors and they can be simply cut and removed as no longer required.

The car will still pass MOT emissions and fuel economy should not be affected. Car will have more throttle response and rev more freely.

As for the interior panel retrims - just buy yourself a few metres from a fabric store instead and use the old trim that you peel of your panels as the templates to cut out. Thats all the kits are on ebay anyway, but your paying more for somebody to do the cutting. The hard works is the fitting itself. Takes a lot of patience and some very strong glue. Evo Stick Contact adhesive - Solvent version, in a tin, is pretty good.

You will not be able to get them perfect unfortunately, you cant stretch them around every curve, they really need to be cut and stitched. Have not seen any that are perfect that have not been professionally stitched and fitted.

Good advice :duffer:

Will it definately pass an mot with a decat? Thats one of the main reasons I haven't bothered before and I don't mind removing the cat sensors as mine plays up anyway.

If I was to do the interior panels myself can you simply wrap the fabric around the old panels? Without removing the tweed. This sounds a better idea if all you get is pre cut panels and you have to order from the USA.

Is there an easy way to know if my car has pre cats or not?

Don't want to get underneath in this bad weather lol!

All pre-95 Z's are tested using the non-catalytic convertor emission test and its data is not on the Emissions database.

If your cat sensors is intermittently lighting up the cat heat symbol on your dash then its likely your have a missfire issue when running, alllowing unburnt fuel into the exhaust system.

Its better to remove the tweed as then you have templates for cuting the new material. I've never stuck it over the tweed, have always removed first, so not sure how it would affect the overall finish and process.

If its a UK TT then its has a precat on the passenger downpipe elbow. If its an Import then it does not.

Cheers for the emissions info

My cat sensor light did use to come on occasionally but this was always early morning starts in winter. I suppose a car like this deserves a nice interior and not a bodged one. Will have to take the tweed off and make good job of it. My car is a non turbo jap so I will probably decat it now

Thanks
