Guy took his Monaro to a local garage in Birmingham to fix a rad leak. He had a hidden blackbox called the Roadhawk in the car which has a camera and gps to track the car. Upon checking it he finds out they took the car out for a drive reaching speeds of 125mph! This is the garage he went too:

Certainly a nice bit of kit that, lol think i might look into one of them, i can see someone getting sacked for that, unless it was the boss, but whats the betting they use some excuse like "well we had to test it so we took it for a run"

yeah theyre taking it out for a run to test the rad, but those speeds are rediculous, especially on A-roads :( there's enough data there for prosecution easily. awesome piece of kit though, recording G-force, location, speed, even cockpit sounds like their voices. how they didnt spot i'll never know! not bad for £280 although i guess GPS subscription is on top.

£280 to safeguard your car mate, sounds a reasonable price to me, even with subscription. imagine a thief thinking hes getting away with your prised possession, i think i see a kill switch somewhere, you ring it with your mobile and it kills the engine, bit like the tech they have in stinger cars.

Right just had a look at that, and its £280 for the single camera just over 500 for the double front and back, and you don't need to subscribe, it records all the data and the GPS data strait onto a memory card.

Yeah think ill be investing in one of them sounds like an awesome bit of kit, will also prove if anyone hits you, or more importantly if you go into the back of someone due to there breaks not working. friend had that happen on our local dual carriageway, where the guy not only cut in front of her, he then break hard and his break lights weren't working, but because they couldn't prove weather or not his lights were working before the accident, she was in the wrong.

Been in that garage down by Portway many a time as it's a car sales place as well which, at least until a few years ago anyway (haven't been in for about 2-3 years) specialised in classics and exotics. Was seriously considering buying a 25th anniversary model Corvette from them before I settled on the Z. I also know the stretch of road they went down as it used to be referred to as the "Test Track" by some old mates of mine!

I am liking that Roadhawk tech a LOT. Need to read up a bit more about it particularly if it only activates when the vehicle is in motion...in other words, if you take your car into be serviced/repaired at a place you're not sure of, can it record while it's being worked on? You won't see a helluva lot if you've only got the forward facing camera with the bonnet up but, as it appears to record audio, you might be able to pick up whats being said...which could prove enlightening ;)

From my previous job working in the motor trade, I know how excited the technicians get when they get to work on a nice car - not for the privilege of working on it but looking forward to the test drive after. Unfortunately some people don't care as its not theirs, but I for one was the other way round and treated it with total respect if it was someone elses. Yeah its nice driving fast cars but that sort of speed in a customers car takes the piss.

Thats why if i can i will always hang around when my cars in a garage, or im very nearby covering all angles i can see it being taken out.lol.

Sad but has to be done as i dont trust them with these types of cars.

If it just writes to a memory card, not much good if your car is stolen and you don't get it back, won't help it from being stolen or found ;)

But isn't it fairly obvious that this is not what the Roadhawk is for? There are plenty of products out there that will do that particular job already. :)

At a merc dealership in notts a mechanic took a SLK out after servicing it and promptly wrapped it round a tree , he then legged it expecting no one at work would notice !! :xxx:

Yes they sacked him and the dealership replaced the car .
