a guy local to us has asked us to go and take a look at a few plumbing jobs in his house, i asked what was wrong with his eye and he told me he had cancer of the blood and had developed shingles, i quickly backed away as i know it can be contagious, but he tried to tell me it was ok as the scabs and spots were gone but he still has it as his eye most of one side of his face cant be used properly, i still refused to go in and he got a bit upety and said he would get a letter from the nurse to say it was ok for me to go in

now the worse thing is im helping to care for my mother as she has just had a big hernia op and has a dodgy heart so needs to be carefull whilst she recovers, the last thing i want is to pass something like that on

does anyone know if i would catch shingles from him if i wore gloves and a dust mask, or should i seek more advice from a doctor???

please help as my boss is telling me i must do this job, ive told him that i want a signed document stating that i have to do it and that if i contact the virus and have to take time off work that i will recieve full pay (only fair i thought)

anyone know what i should do, im more concerned about my mother than me

HI Bud, I had shingles recently brought on by stress, anyhow as long as you dont come into contact with the open sores/scabs you are ok, the only time it is contagious is when the sores are open, Not really contagious any other time, Then in saying that i did stay away from my brother who recently recoverd from cancer as i was told too as his immune system was low and he was more prone to get it. Id say just glove up do the job if the place is clean like if not make them clean properly first (i hate dirty/un-hygenic people), and get out all should be cool.......

just stick a full slicker suit on, gimp yourself right up and go do it,

might sound stupid but takes away all possibilities if you have every bit of you skin covered.

yeah thats a good idea craig, ill just whip me full hazmat suit out and wear that lol

Just visit the local sex shop buddy, plenty PVC available.lol.

You can catch chicken pox from shingles but not shingles from shingles. There's an awful lot of misinformation and old wives tales out there so it's sometimes difficult to tell whats truth and whats fiction. It's the liquid inside the sores that carries the virus so as long as you're not in contact with that you'll be fine. I've had shingles myself (due to an immune system that needs to be artificiually reduced due to another condition I have) and it's not pleasant so I can understand your concern, particularly as you're also worried about passing anything on to your mom.

As friday has said, you cant catch shingles from someone with shingles, but you can pass on chickenpox onto someone if they have never had chicken pox. So folk with shingles should avoid contact with pregnant ladies.

Trust me I`m a doctor....
