Hi chaps.

Well i quite enjoy a game of golf now and then. looking to change my irons but i dont believe in all this hype of its the clubs your using, to me its the person using them. So anyways, im looking to get some new irons and im thinking on these ram ones. Any advice on them would be great.

Not sure if i they are graphite shafts or what not or anythign liek that;

Sorry mate, if your a high handicap it's everything to do with what clubs you are using. Tiger could go round in scratch with a shitey old set but for us mere mortals it's all about confidence. I hacked around for years until I invested in a made to measure set of Callaway X18. The results were immediate and great. I knocked 15 shots off my round and have improved ever since. If you like your clubs you will do better, simple as that.

have to agree, having confidence when your stood over the ball is 99% of the game and theres alot of technology that goes into the best clubs to help you make the shots, even if you heel or toe it the better clubs can still make a decent shot and take shots from your round!!

my advice would be to go to a local golf club and speak to the pro and get a fitting, its usually free and they will show you a variety of clubs to see what you prefer and more importantly what fit you best, they can even have them made shorter etc so they fit you like a glove :)

Craig - might be worth giving Deep Red graphite irons a look for that price region. Very good equipment.

Ideally, if there is a American Golf Store near you, go along and try a few different sets out on the virtual range.

i wouldnt go graphite unless you struggle to swing the club but the deep red irons are a good beginners choice, i had them for my first proper set of clubs and went from a 28 handicap to 12 with them :)

i started with graphite and they twisted making my shots drift off corse i had some pro lessons and he advised me what route to go and i got nike nds irons, nike ignite drivers and ping crazee putter and after a £1000 later my game has got better and i'm well chuffed. as said go to america golf choose lots of clubs and try them out there is a big difference in them

you could get a half decent set off ebay if you look well and dont buy the first lot you see, but i'd go somewhere like american golf first to get a feel for a few different set-up's first like stiff flex reg flex etc. i started with a budget set of regal clubs paid 150 for full set including bag and trolley they were ok but didnt improve my game much, then i got a used set of Titleist DCI irons which i now use very well indeed (especially as they forged) considering they're over 5 years old. clubs are expensive so i think it's good to settle with a few different types before splashing out on an expensive new fitted set

Well im hopefully going to florida in may which i intend to buy a new set of clubs.

Think there is an american golf outlet in glasgow i may go and try. Or head to JJB in clydebank, believe they have a huge golf section and driving range to try the clubs out in.

Thanks guys, sounds like USA is the way to go.

Mizuno Irons... MX 23's I think... would never look at another set Gradually worked from playing off 23 to 12.

Clubs aren't going to suddenly make you a better golfer... but they will suddenly feel better on contact, good cavity iron with improve consistency

I got mine on ebay ( had been used about 6 rounds ) for around 50% off retail price. Ebay... all the way

Guy at work was telling me to get mizunos, says they are quite good and not bad price wise also.

Thanks guys, sounds like USA is the way to go.

Not sure if you understood and just to calrify before you buy a plane ticket. American Golf store are stores in England. Only stock golf gear and nearly all have virtual ranges for you to find the perfect club to suit your height, swing, etc

I know what use meant.lol! As i said think theres an american golf in glasgow.

But im going hopefully to USA in may so possibly pick a set up then aswell also.

I think everyone here has given you some pretty good advice - i would say get some nice friendly cavity back irons - dont have to be a really expensive set, as i think that the technology thesedays is so good and very transferable, my mate has a set of dodgy dunlops! but he hits them a mile, and they feel pretty nice to be honest, so whatever feels comfy i guess.

I always buy my golf stuff 2nd hand - just cos its sooo expensive, now playing with a set of Taylor Made forged irons. I suggest trying some clubs out at your local range or shop etc, so you can gauge what suits you most (length, lie angle, size of grips, loft, general feel etc) then try and get something the same or similar online - Golfbidder is a pretty good site, not as cheap as ebay.

I have a spare set of Callaway Big Bertha (2004) irons with mint rifle shafts aimed at higher handicappers, with a faster swing. They're in pretty good nick - really forgiving and served me will till i needed a bit more control and less forgivingness. Let me know if your interested.

Also since all who have looked at this thread are into golf - i was thinking about organising a Zed Golf day - A good day out on the course, some friendly comps, a few prizes, and then an impromptu zed meet either in the car park or at the closest pub? what do you guys think?

heres to speedy cars, and nice slow swings.

I'm in Wokingham and would be up for a golf day.

Berks, Bucks, Oxon area?

*I Playing the 2010 course this Thursday & Friday at Celtic Manor.. :nana2:

errr regretting that "12" comment already..... let's say on my best day with fairways on either side of 'my' fairway to catch any strays.. I have played to 12 this year!

Woah... Celtic Manor.... Now that is some course, you lucky git, how did you manage to swing that?

i'm in the B,B&O area so that sounds good, I have posted a thread on South Central bit of this site so hopefully we will get some response from some other fellow golfers, I think it could be a nice day - golf and cars... not too bad eh?

.... and that sounds like a bit of bandit backtracking... 12 it is:tongue:

Where do you play at the moment Boom? I play at Goring and Streatley which is in between oxford and reading ish. - Wokingham really isn't too far if you ever want to hook up for a game, i'm always up for it.

Hi Craig,

I don't know how to post photos on a private message so i'm gonna have to do it here. (Any mods please move this where it should go if its in the wrong place)

so here are some links to give you an idea of the clubs:

http://www.golfbidder.co.uk/models/1595/Callaway_Iron_Set_Big_Bertha_(2004_Series).html

http://www.golfreview.com/cat/irons/callaway/PRD_321979_2940crx.aspx#reviews

The set has the following: 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 - Unlike most which only start at the 3 iron - or more likely these days 4 or 5 iron (people often use hybrids instead of long irons)

All fitted with Precision Rifle Lite 6.0 shafts and Golf Pride grips.

All are in good condition, there are 2 very small splits on the grips of the 5 and 7 iron (the worst of these is pictured - the other split is in same place but really small)

The 5 iron also has a small dent on the edge of the sole (made by a sodding stone hiding just under the fairway on the 18th)

The 2 iron is missing the little plastic ring on the hosel (pictured) This has no effect on the club whatsoever.

I'm not too sure about price, if your still interested after checking out the links and the photos then let me know, or make me an offer.

Nice one mate,

P

ahhhh no bother mate!!

I was doign some research on them anyways price wise etc...

Like i said mate, i would be happy to do a deal for a fellow zed man, maybe if we get a golf day sorted you can use them if you like and see what you think?
