I have a head unit that has a slot for a USB in the front. Can I use a portable USB drive (4GB) to play MP3 format files via the head unit.

When I connect it to the head unit I get a message saying no file system.

I've also tried connecting my Ipod but it doesn't pick that up either.

on reading the manual there is a disclaimer about it not being guaranteed to play all formats :(

The head unit is made by Denver

the USB drive is an integral 4GB

Some devices have a 2GB limit. If you have a smaller drive (under 2GB), format it as FAT16 and try again.

Maybe it might work if he partitioned it into two 2Gb partitions formatted as FAT16? Just a thought.
