My next door neighbour/ best mate/the one who wears the dodgy pumps/ the one whos foot i ran over/ the same guy that fried his mums car battery fuse and replaced it with a wire, well....... his car is an alfa romeo 1.6 twin spark...and has been sitting on his drive for 4 months without being started.

 

We now have a fully charged battery in and have changed the spark plugs and ht leads, but when firing the b!tch up it just turns over but wont start..

 

We have checked the fuel and have put more petrol in along with injectore cleaner and the fuel is going through so we know the pump is ok.

 

Any ideas what else we should check?

 

and also will running the car down the road and jump start it , make a difference ?

lol before i posted this thread i told him that his car would probably get the pi$$ ripped out of it lol..........

 

but on a serious note, i think it will start there is just something we havent thought of yet :)

my mate had this trouble and it was the crank angle sensor. We found it out by joining an Alfa forum. As you are aware, electrics are not very good for the Alfa and there's loads of problems in the tech section!!!

i should give it its due.. it has never failed once till now.......... but all alfas are known for breaking down and stuff....... they have only thereselves and top gear to thank for their reputation :D

I bought a 156 earlier this year (2.0 twin spark daily driver) and after 9k all its needed is a front pipe for the MOT and a bulb. I love it and would have another any day! (maybe I just got lucky lol)

i think every 1 in 10 is a good one....... lol so id say you were lucky and obv took good care of it, as that is the problem with most cars nowadays, people dont know how to look after them..........

 

i hate alfas.....BUT i would stick up for my mates as his never let him down once unless it run out of petrol, but thats the owners fault :D

 

and obv up untill now.... but im sure we will get it started . somehow.. he is on the alfa forum and they are giving a few suggestions.......

Is there a fuel cut switch in the engine bay, used to have a car some years ago and each time the battery went flat I had to push that...its worth a try mate if so?
