I posted once before about my `puter not starting up straighforwardly ( That`s still the case : black screen and mumbo-jumbo)

Now the fooker won`t close down either . 99% of times I get a small window saying : " This program is not responding . " ( Click to close ) The program is SMax4PNP apparently something to do with sound .

Anybody else had this ? Anyone fixed it ?

try to uninstall the driver.... i always use AC97 for onboard sound drivers... do you have onboard or dedicated sound card?

 

as per regarding the black screen upon startup the only ones i can think about are boot options (i have them for my dual boot setup) or an error regarding system not shutting down properly.

 

just be glad it's not a hard drive issue or a driver conflict resulting in BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH :)

 

i fix alot of PC's and have built two of my own gameing rigs this year aswell as 9 for friends.

 

if i get more info ill try to pinpoint your problem with more detail :)

When you next boot and get this, press F2. This will bring up the BIOS setup. It is usually enough with Dells to just save and exit.

 

That should get rid of this, if not it is still quite easym just need to be talked through it.
