Hello folks.

Well fingers crossed if i go and pick my car up on friday that i will have the miles on it by saturday. Got something quite important thats needing doing and involves alot of miles combined with the miles of driving home possibly via stellaz place. This will work out in total either between 800-1000miles by late saturday afternoon.

So basically what im wondering is how to do the oil change, ive never done an oil change before, and with this being me putting the new oil in after the re-build bedding in miles i want to ensure i get it right and have it fully drained out.

Far as im aware just open a bleed point underneath the car and let it drain?

Where is this located, any pictures of this? And......i assume its the case of just open the plug and let it drain?

Whats the best oil to put in...10w40 castrol? And how much should i put in after draining the orginal bedding in oil?

Mikey still has my car, as i stated in the first thread, if i get my car back on the friday i will have the bedding in miles on it by late saturday afternoon, so i will be doing the oil change then or on sunday, not to sure.

Just trying to get my mind set and ready to do it and have the parts available if you know what i mean so i have nothing holding me back.lol.

Good Good :)

hopefully some of you chaps will heard north of the border a few times aswell:D!

Will actually bed the honing better if ya thrash it straight out of the garage :D then take it easy.

National tyres do an oil change with full synthetic and a good brand filter for £39 ie about the price Halfords charge for the oil to do it yourself.

I had the oil in my 4.6l V8 Ford engined MGZT done this way 3 times now with no hassles.

Whats the honing jimmer?

Its a gadget they put in the piston bore ,to get the glaze off i think,

Honing adds sort of diagonal scratches to the machined bore surface so that oil tends to stick better and piston rings seal better. Its not good to be too smooth in a glassy sense.

Whats the honing jimmer?

You keep calling J1mmytt , Jimmer , confusing (two different forum members)

oops .....sorry jimmy.lol!!!

ahhhhhhh ok, i still dont ancy booting it much in it tho and will let it bed in itself over the 1kmiles.ahaha!!

Does the Z really only need just under 4 litres of oil?

My wife's 1.0 Micra needs 3.5 litres and my 2.8 Merc takes nearly 9 litres!

Why does the Z need so little?

coz its a shite design :(

In order to extend the oil change interval on some cars the sump is made bigger. We have a family renault scenic 1.4 which has a 6 litre sump but only needs a change about every 12000 whereas some argue the 4 litre oil content in a zed needs changing every 3000miles.
