he has been limping now and then when out for a walk and have noticed his foot is getting very flat, had a vet look at him and he said he may have stretched a ligament in his leg, ive been told to massage and walk him regular, if it doesnt get better he may have to have an op to rectify it, apperently it happens in a lot of large breed mastiffs

anyone had this op done on their dog, would like to know what is involed and how long it took to heal, he is very active and would hate to see him out of action

my old rotty beefy had problems with a torn cruchet ligament 3 times! was VERY expensive and took ages to get over.:(

dan.:D

thats it, its a stretched crucial ligament

make sure he takes it easy cause if it tears its expensive!

yeah i know, he is insured, but i will be very carefull

no up and down the stairs and jumping up and down! think swimming was best thing!

dan.:)

Yep swimming is best as no weight on the joints etc....... 10min swim is roughly the same as a 3 mile walk without all the stress on the joints, we take Bacchus twice a week.

yes stellaz it is a common problem with the mastiffs i've know of two around my area that had the exact same problem.

they ware ok after op tho.

mastiffs are wonderful dogs i wouldn't have any other!

one of my mums past male boxers had it and had the op and was fine after that :)

Our lab had an xray yeserday to confirm that she has ruptured this ligament to, she is going in on Wednesday for the op to fix it. Vet has said days leading up to it keep her quiet and once the op is done no walks for 2 weeks, then only a 5 minute walk a day for a week , then 10 minutes for another week etc. We also have to half here food until she is exercising again and put vegetables in here food (peas and carrots?)

I will let you know how it goes.

Hope everything works out for riddick buddy, it's a pretty standard op and he'll be back to himself quicker than you'll think :D

will have a lok for a pool near me, does it make much of a difference in the dog

good for building up the muscles and strengthening ligaments without the weight on the joints.

bacchus has been going twice a week since he was 6month.

i think its just stretched at the moment, but ive been told once the probs start it wont get much better

will let you knows how it goes

We picked up our dog laqst night after she had the op on Wednesday, completely shaved up to the top of her thigh and all completely bandaged up. They kept her in overnight on Wednesday, the op went well but is very painful for them. She spent most of last night and this morning so far crying despite being given pain killers. We are keeping her static but obviously she hobbles about to go to the garden for a pee break but she doesn't know what to do with herself as she is in pain and doesn't stop crying. The other 2 dogs don't quite understand and won't settle either.

Thank god for pet insurance, the bill was £750 !!!
