Anyone had any experience with a cat c write off vehicle with regards to a vic test. A family member has had her car wrote off and now been paid out on it (less salvage value and kept the car) the car is too nice to scrap but just wondered whats the position to selling it on. Is it her responsibilty to put it through a vic test or can she just inform any potential buyer it requires the vic test?

either or, but will get less for it if it requires a test, you cant get the log book till it has had one, i think mine cost about 50 quid

She still has the logbook but the dvla havent requested it back, all her insurance company have said is that a vic test required before can be legally put back on the road, she doesnt want the car anymore but wonders where she stands selling it on.

new owner will not recieve leg book till it has a vic test done, if she doesnt say anything and repairs the car to sell, the new owner ma take her to court for selling without teling them it needs a vic test

what kind of car is it

if she sells it advertised as a Cat C and requrieing a VIC test, then no problem.

Alternatively just get it VIC tested herself. Its very straighforward there are VOSA tested all over the place, bound to be one nearby.

Its just a vehicle identity check where they match the engine and chassis numbers before issueing the certificate to enable you to get the V5.

just worth mentioning that they will only vic test the car if it has current mot tax and insurance and must be in roadworthy condition , , ie repaired ,

as above anyone getting insured on it will be notified by insurance company that its a cat c , they have to tell any new owner by law ,as do you if you sell it on repaired or otherwise , it will lower the cars value , the reason fo rthe vic test is they just check the cars identitiy ,

Viechle Identity Check . v.i.c. reason for this is to insure you havent gone and stolen another identical viechle and swapped over numbers and shell etc , in short they check its the same car the insurance company have written off , , any government run mot station or check dvla web site or vosa , they will help you with booking a vic test in your area, hth paul !

Thats what she is wanting to do mate as her insurance is no longer valid for the car and she doesnt want to spend money having it repaired for the mot/vic test. She just wanted to know if she could sell it on as is and tell new owner whats needed.

cheers mate, but am gonna wait and see if i get the one my mate has in his garage, its been crash damaged and is waiting the insurance payout, the guy doiesnt know if he wants it back or not
