hmmm how bout a vacum leak check all the vacum pipes ect or faulty ide valve if it has one

There is a forum specifically for the mk3, I used to be on there when i had one of those cars and they saved me a hell of a lot of time and money with the advise i got.

I never had the problem your getting so wouldnt know what to suggest but I would deffo have another one of those motors if i could find a decent one, nicest car ive owned to drive and thats including the z!!

Check the air flow metre. Also the plastic on the metres crack now and then and give the metre the wrong reading. How well does the car rev. As said vac pipe could be loose or spit.

has it got an idle control valve. if so it would be my first point of call to locate and clean thoroughly! vauxhalls used to suffer from this exact problem and it was a dirty idle valve
