Written off car question

My mate has crashed his car and its got loads of bits on it, the insurance company have said they will be collecting the car on monday and taking it away, never to be seen again.

How does my mate stand with removing items that he's fitted, i.e bucket seats, stereo etc? His dad is telling him that he has to leave absolutely everything in it but surely thats not the case, can someone please help?

And how would he go about buying the car back off the insurance? woul that be a possibility?

well for one has he been paid out, does he have the option to buy it back, can he remove the parts and replace them with standard bits, leave it outside, remove the items and put the window out and say it was stolen

I suppose it mostly depends on if he has declared everything to the insurance company. Also does he have the original parts to put back on?

If they aint declared and he has original parts then just swap em round.

Have they got pictures of it as it is now?

He hasn't been paid out yet, it only happened yesterday but his insurance company have told him they are collecting the car on monday it will then get assessed and he will receive a cheque through the post.

He had declared everything on the insurance, but who's to say he didnt take it off before the crash?

I guess the only problem with that line of thinking is, if he changed things (even back to standard) he did not declare it to the insurance company and that could cause some mega bloody problems

I'm not saying that will happen - but who knows. I'd be very careful trying tricks like that if i were you. The last thing you want is to actually give them a reason to wriggle out of it!!!

If its declared then the pay out should reflect how the car is etc......

Untill he gets the money in his hands it is still his car and they can not take it!

i didnt let them take mine away when it was written off as i was wanting to take it to my own garage they then sent an assessor to where i had the car. when i was younger i had a tigra that was written off, i let them pick it up ect then when i got paid out was told i could get all my extra things back if i swapped them for standard however when i went to get them various little things had been taken from the car but i had no proof so couldnt argue it

its his car and he can do as he likes with it!!!

I have experience of this where my car was stolen I found out what yard it was in and removed the stereo the tax disc and and put the standard wheels back on with NO issue whatsoever.

Thanks for the input guys.

His dad told him he cant take ANYTHING out... but I argued the case otherwise - since then he has taken his expensive seats out and fitted some cheapo bucket seats, and removed a whole load of other bits that he would have otherwise lost.
