I look at swine flue like I did all the other scares such as BSE/E COLI/BIRD FLU/ETC Chances are if your gonna get it, you probably already have, so why worry about it. doesnt bother me at all really. if one of my kids

Apparently it aint that different from seasonal flu. In fact the latter is considered more dangerous as it (by comparison) has taken many more lives than swine flu. The dangers lie in the fact that any new strain of flu can be unpredicatble so hence the big scare? we have all just had colds and felt really rotten but nothing out of the ordinary. My Grandson was having trouble keeping he's food down but after 3 days its cleared up. So we are just going to see how it goes. What more can one do? Fingers crossed. HOINK HOINK!

LOL

What a shed load of Rubbish ;).

Swine flu is a very mild form of influenza and no more a risk to the general population of the UK than the common cold. Here in the UK we are used to flu and vaccinated against it, in countries like Mexico they are not used to it or vaccinated so are prone to more serious bouts.

So far there has yet to be one single case of a person dying because of swine flu. A few have died who have it, but it has not caused their deaths. Same as people die who have a cold, it’s not the cold that killed them they just happend to have a cold at the time. Or if you want to be outlandish you can go with green trousers, I bet 500+ people have died in the UK this year wearing green trousers, didn’t have anything to do with the deaths just they had them on.

I've had swine flu (so have most of my mates and family), lasted about three days feeling a bit poorly no worse than any other fluey thing I've had. Lemsip for a couple of days and job done.

The only people who should worry about it are those who should be worried about normal flu anyway which kill about 5000 people in the UK every year.

It's probably not going to worry anyone who isn't a) old and infirm or b) has a suppressed immune system. In those two instances, as touched upon by takemetothepub, it could prove fatal. I unfortunately fall into the latter category having a suppressed immune system (which has to be kept low due to another serious condition I have). And I live in Solihull, just outside of Birmingham, where there's been a marked increase in the number of cases since the initial outbreak. So actually yes, it is a little worrying.

I'm firmly against Daily Mail-esque reactionary paranoia (in fact, that kind of parochial, NIMBY, far right, middle-class, suburbanite clap-trap gets right up my nose in general) but to dismiss the current epidemic, and be under no illusion it is an epidemic, as spurious is to not acknowledge what's right in front of your very (possibly mask-covered ;)) nose.

Whilst barring the doors and screaming "unclean, unclean!" at anyone who will listen is frankly somewhat ridiculous (a policy that some of our so-called "news" papers seem to be encouraging), it shouldn't be taken as lightly as others are claiming. The "I'm Alright Jack" attitude that seems to be developing is equally as reactionary and, potentially, more damaging.

Just my 2p's worth, feel free to shoot me down ;)

thers a chap behind our place with swine flu, he bin told to stay in not seen him for about a week!

dan.:)

i had a lucky break....

last Friday had a barbecue party that lasted 7 hours till about 1:30am.

We were all passing the Singstar microphone along and been in close contact with each other.

One of my friends sister who mentioned feeling unwell at the berbeque has now been confirmed with swine flu after feeling crap since and is now on the tamiflu at home.

After Friday i started to feel a bit uneasy and by wednesday i still had a head ache and sore throat.

Head ache has gone and sore throat and tiredness still here however temperature was 36.5 which is about normal..

it's either i had a lucky escape or i am a carrier :-O

LOL

Neighbour was told he had it the other week. It's a bit of a worry as I have asthma and a lowered immune system, due to drugs I was on for psoriasis.

Some of what you say Nick is true but unfortunately some of you say is rubbish too.

Lets look at some facts.....

Swine flu is a type of Flu virus. True.

It is a new virus entity tho for the UK and therefore it is not correct to say that its a very mild form... We simply dont know yet.

Its not related to the common cold virus Rhinovirus tyope( except for the fact that it is a virus too)

It may well be no more severe than a cold in some people BUT in many it will be. Since its all new to the UK we dont know yet.

Here in the UK we are indeed used to a variety of flu viruses, however the vast majority of the population is NOT vaccinated against any form of flu virus. The existing flu vaccine normally distributed to at risk groups of patients is quite specific and does not confer a general immunity to all flu type viruses. There is a specific Swine flu virus being developed as I post but it is not yet licenced for use and it will be in limited supply once it does gain regulatarory approval.

The only people who should worry about it are those who should be worried about normal flu anyway which kill about 5000 people in the UK every year.

Well that means many many people, probably several million should be worried about any new unknown type of flu arriving in the UK. ALL very young babies/children. All elderly people(even if they are normally healthy. ALL diabetics. ALL people with asthma,COPD and cardiovascular problems etc etc.

The government too is concerned about it as they have stockpiled millions and millions or packs of the anti viral drug Tamiflu on a scale never known before. Now wards are being set aside in hospitals to cope with cases should they arise and keep them separate from the hundreds of thousands of other hospital patients to whom the virus could be fatal.

And I have a funny feeling I will be spending a lot of my working time over the next 6 months fielding enquiries about Swine flu and maybe distributing supplies of Tamiflu.

There is no need to panic:nono:

Tabloid scaremongering and hype can be ignored.:xxx: But you all need to be aware of the potential for all of this to turn serious.

I rest my case:)

I've got it and I feel shite:cry:

Although not as bad as when I knocked my Raleigh chopper into neutral with my

knee and knocked my Taters on the crossbar. SO not that fookin bad to be honest.:(
