Does anyone have a mk4 golf... and if so do they have their owners handbook anywhere?

Could just do with an underbonnet shot from one, or if anyone knows where do I put water (or tell my lass where to put water) in one, straight into the rad? Or is there an expansion tank that your ment to pour it into.

If anyone can give me a rundown as to where everything is so i can help her over the phone tonight i would most appreciate it!

this is on a 1.6 16v model, that still apply, i assume there will be fill marks. If i get her to boil a kettle and then let the water cool that'll do wont it?

Same on all types Golf, Polo, Leon, Ibiza etc.

If the engine is warm put in warm water, from memory there are fill marks on it.

cool, tap water okay or does it need to be distilled? (tbh come to think of it iv never actually put water in a car! Amazingly never needed to!)

Tap water is fine for a quick fix depending on how much. The Mk4 does use a recommended additive I think, it was G15 or something on earlier Mk3's if you are putting in alot of water in then 1st chance you get find the additive and add some.

sweet cheers mate, your a legend... were even now LOL. I'll tell her to top it up to the max line, if not ive looked into replacing the coolant expansion bottle, or the sensor in there (cant buy it on its own) seems to be the common fix to cure the issue. To be honest i think it will be the sensor but worth just checking the level. Wouldnt normally be a problem but im miles away from the car so cant even look at it!

No worries, the sensor is moulded into the tank so you need to change the whole thing. If you need one let me know... I have contacts!

awesome thanks mate! I dont think they are particularly dear, ive seen a price of about £10 for the assembly, but i'll certainly let you know if it needs a fresh one!
