im getting a car next week for free but i have to tax and test it, but ihave to pick it up and drive it 15 miles, now i wil be driving it to a mot centre and taxing it straight away (if it passes), now is this ok to do orwill i get done, it will be insured and will be driven straight to mot centre and left there till it was taxed, there is prob a few mot stations that i pass on the way but i like to take my car to a certain place as ive always used them and a lot of my family does

anyone know if i can do this ok

had a quick search but can't find any ruling on it having to be the nearest one, if you got pulled would the police have any idea on where your nearest one is, i've done the same thing in the past, taken them to the same station with several closer.

No it can be anywhere lol Bloke bought a metro from me and drove it 100 miles home!

Just check all tyres etc, brakes are legal they can still do you for driving car in dangerous condition

Just like to add that it'd do you good to have a quick look round it before you drive it, because although it is not illegal to drive it to a pre booked MOT, you can still be prosecuted if it is in an unroadworthy condition.

Sounds a bit backwards but having a bald tyre(s). lights out, brakes not working very well etc will get you done. If the car appears to be roadworthy and you come across as not very mechanically minded, the cops will let you go on your way if there is nothing blatantly obvious to tell you you shouldn't be driving it on a public road.

Yep, fine so long as the test is booked but you should only drive it straight back home after.

Expect to get pulled too, that ANPR business is shit hot, I got pulled within a minute of joining the M5 the other week driving back from MOT.
