you'll only notice a slight difference between 720p/1080p, it all depends on what your viewing. If it's normal tv, then you'll notice no difference at all unless your watching an HD broadcast as normal cable/sky/freeview is not broadcast in hd unless your viewing it through an "upscaler".

if its just for that then go for the 720p. i have a little 21" screen for my PS3 though and the difference between 720p and 1080i is quite noticeable. 720 almost looks fuzzy in comparison. 1080p on my mates 36" is a different story

Im going for a 37" samsung its avalible in 720 and 1080p, they all look the same in the shop.

You may as well get the full HD (1080p) I've got a Philips Ambilight 1080p telly and it's great.

Problem with that TV is the contrast ratio. 15000:1 is very low. They are knocking out contrasts now as high as 200000:1

It's not 100Hz either.

u will notice the difference! ..1080p is by far better picture...the pic in the shop is run through a "shared ariel" so the pic will not be the best to compare things to,

when u play the ps3/xbox360 u will notice the difference straight away...no point buying 720...for a little extra money u will get alot more quality! also get your self a upscaling 1080p dvd player they are cheap ..& will make good use of you new tv:)

The reason they look the same is that they are probably playing a standard definition TV feed without any upscaling.

Things to factor in when deciding which to go with is :

  1. Price - whats the difference between both models
  2. Size - what screen size are you buying. 1080p allows you better resolution on a larger screen due to increased numbers of pixels (around twice the amount)
  3. Seating distance/room size - how far will your seating position be from the screen. Only at a certain distance with the clarity of picture be evident
  4. Content Feed - unless you are playing blue-ray DVD's, HD DVD's or PS3 there is no real difference. Sky HD outputs currently at 720p

With all that said if its not significantly more expensive I would go for the 1080p although for a small TV by todays standards 37" the difference won't be great unless you sit pretty close to it.

However, let me advise the following, whatever you are prepared to spend on the TV, to experience the true effects of High Definition you absolutely must be prepared to pay to have high spec audio. Even for standard DVD's to gain the full enjoyment out of home theatre, quality audio (as distinct from something capable of giving ear drum damage form harshness of sound) is an absolute must.

Hope that helps

Edit - never looked at the specs of the TV but just noticed Steve's comment about the contrast ratios. Seems like a lowly spec'd model so be careful

argos have a toshiba 42" 1080p in the sale for £499.99 cheap as chips

have to say 720p/1080p video is amazing.......watched the dark knight on blu ray,the difference between that and normal dvd resolution is astonishing.......ive a samsung 40" lcd, full 1080p.....this is also a great bit of kit, plays upto 1080p mkv's...http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-1080P-Media-Player/dp/B001ILFDCK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1234427640&sr=1-1

With the my 360, i couldn't tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p, and that's on a 42inch plasma. I wouldn't get too drawn in by the sales pitches of it's better getting 'full hd'. Just think whether you're gonna need it or not.

720 and 1080 both look great and are an improvement over SD so just spend what you want to spend. Given that you only want to use it with a pc/itunes, i'd go for a cheap one.

Don't forget that 3DTV is starting to emerge...

.........whether it takes off is another matter of course. But then, if you don't watch much television, it makes no difference.:D

COD5 ON 1080P and a 60inch plasma tv cant be beat :D

Except for maybe COD5 on 1080p and a 110" projector :p
