Afternoon all, :D

I've recently tried to fit a CD Changer to my Rover 220. I have the (OEM) R770 head unit and obtained an OEM (Alpine) changer complete with the full bracket and cable for mounting in the boot.

Once it was all fitted properly I tried it out and got a 'CD Error' message on the display!

To cut a long story short, As it had only cost me 99p + P&P off eBay I wasn't too worried as it had come complete, so I found another one also on eBay and bought that. This one came with the mounting bracket and cable for under the passenger seat.

Firstly I plugged it into the boot location and tried it, this also showed 'CD Error', so I tried it with the new short cable in the front of the car, and it still showed 'CD Error' (I also tried the original changer with the short cable and got the same)

So this time I got hold of another R770 head unit and tried again and still got the same 'CD Error' message

So now I've got;

2 x R770 head units

2 x OEM CD Changers (complete with front and rear brackets)

2 x Cables

And I still get 'CD Error'!!

Am I doing something wrong? Does the changer have to aclimatise (sp?) to the car before it'll work?

Anyone know anything about Rover ICE that can help, will be greatly appreciated, as this is starting to do my head in!

TIA

Dave

may be a silly Q dave, but are the cd`s in the tray the right way round ?

No question is ever silly, just the answer ;)

I placed them picture face up and silver down to the plate, as far as I know that should be the correct way :(

i know on some units, you had to reset both the head unit & the changer when connected. there was a small hole in both units & used a pin. i doubt very much youve got 2 of everything thats faulty, unless you are very unlucky. lol

Thanks Mario, I'll have a look at the reset button tonight when I get home and see if that helps.

I also thought I'd of been very un-lucky to have to sets of duff stuff.

The short lead from the changer has a 13 pin round plug on it.

TIA

Dave

No sign of a reset button. I've also checked the service manual and no mention of anything there either

This really has got me baffled!

dave, this quote is taken from elsewhere, so check yours against it to see if its one of them listed, other than that, get the philips one suggested.

The early models used XQE100230, XQE100280 and XQE100430 CD changers with round connectors only.Your best bet would be to use the Philips RC026 Changer

Hi Mario

1 of mine is the XQE100230 and the other is the XQE100280 (as far as I can tell, they are both the same unit)

Thanks for all of your help bud

Dave

umm. thats a little wierd then, as those 3 alpine ones supposed to work with the 770 head unit.

Yeah, very weird!

I think I'll have a word with my local (Ex) Rover dealership (now Kia!) and see if there is a technician there (who worked in Rover days) who might know something (maybe a known fault/symptom!)

Thanks for all of you help/time on this Mario

Dave

Try turning the cd's round if you havent, the cd changer in the old ladies volvo (sony) has them silver side up

On the side of the changer there should be a dial that can be set to 0 degrees, 45 and 90 depending on the angle the changer is positioned. If wrong it wont work and wont eject the cartridge either. Hope this is the problem because its all I can think off!

Thanks guys for your input, it's all appreciated.

The CD's are the correct way around (to the best of my knowledge) but then it wont eject now anyway so I can't change them anyway!!

As far as I remember I did set the angle plate to 0 for the first one, couldn't say for certain for the second unit, although it was held flat for the test. I'll check the second one and see what it is set to.

I've also posted this same post on MG-Rover.com and only got one reply, of which wasn't any help. I also posted on there requesting any info as to where it should be mounted (as I'd read conflicting information) when I first started with all this, and got no help whats-so-ever!! And that was in the section especially for ICE...... Not a very helpfull place at all.
