Hello,

Im Marty, and its been many many moons from I was a member on this site.

I had a quick look over Nelsons car as someone here recommended me, even though Its been a few years from Ive worked on Z's. (Tulip if shes still around?) and i done it as a favour, unfortunately i have seen so many dogs in this part of the land its been heart breaking.

Unfortunately with falling prices, these cars have been passing hands from Non enthusiast to non enthusiast, people who dont realise they are still a supercar and hence need the care, attention and proper maintenance that a 300zx needs.

Again thanks to the traders for commenting, but id like to make a few things on the list a little more clear.

O2 Sesnors showed very very little activity at 1500rpms, there was activity but not enough activity so i pronounced them dead

ECU coolant temp read a constant 55 degrees with car hot or cold, resistance test failed on the sensor so i pronounced it dead

Gauge temp sensor - Although wiring bad, sensor is connection physically damaged internally

Oil leaks - Well the sump has been off the car, it had be damaged to the front nearside and had been rewelded. This could be the subject of leaks if it wasnt replaced correctly, but that does not rule out Front seal, until that is inspected.

Rear could be also the above, but as the rear seal is common we cant rule that out.

Turbo feed is wet, hence why i marked as furthur investigation

High pressure line IS leaking around pump area

Rear of bulk head - brown coolant stained, lower area of Heater pipes Brown stained

Cats - yes, i have seen blocked cats on 300zx's which inturn effected the turbo performance. I advised Nelson NOT TO FIT decats or even an exhaust system as the Turbos are the Original units and with the cars milage

this could lead to premature failure off the seals.

As said, i dont work on 300zx's anymore, and Have advised Nelson to sit down and decide if this car is for him. It will require work which he could carry out himself. I have pointed him in the Direction of traders such as

Paul at SWZ and

Smithy

if they are still around as a source of parts and that there are plently of guides and online help out there on the Net for the DIY'er.

I also advised him to sell, and consider spending a little extra on car which has been owned by a club member/enthusiast on this site, where he can check a bit on the history off the car/owner and maybe get himself a car he will enjoy owning and Driving.

Again, nice to pop back to the club, and as said, im a trader and looked at this car as a favour as i know nobody over here knows them, i didnt try and sell or recommend anything that wasnt needed, i give the owner practical non biased advice, and recommended the Traders on here any future business that Nelson may give if he decides to keep the car.

Marty

Thanks Marty for your input and help for Nelson, Tulip and I recomended Nelson to take his zed to you as he needed specialist help. Iam hoping he can get it fixed as there is not many zeds left in N.I. to many are being broken for parts because owners cant afford to repair them. Hope you can stay in touch with us here as your advise would be a great help to us all thanks again for taking the time to come on here and explain the problems Nelson has with his zed

thanks chayden advice more then welcome.

to be honest with you i just want to sell it and buy a proper one :(

To be honest thats the decision I would also take.

Now who is been the clever boy !! that is by far the best non technical reply/ answer I have read that covers the very essence of 300zx repair decisions both upbeat and detailed in approach but still firmly grounded advice.

I wish I had written that!! nice one chayden

Jeff TT

Thank you very much Jeff for the compliment. My answers or comments are nearly always non-technical. But by heck I'm learning a lot more about mechanics now than I ever thought possible before I bought mine. One of the unrecognised benefits of the cost of ownership I guess
