Seeing as I'm really not very good on the whole body/paintwork sort of thing, can someone advise me on the preparing and then painting of my standard throttle cable cover, please.

How to prepare it, what paint to use (gloss black) and how to paint the Nissan letters a different colour from the rest of the cover ...an idiot's guide really :D

Thanks in advance - Andy

OK. you need to remove it and clean it with something that will not leave a residue. plasticote do a good range of colours. use their plastic primer first. now if you want the letters a different colour you will need to carefully mask them after painting them the required colour. once you have done the masking you then apply the overal colour. slowly applying just one coat at a time and letting each dry before the next. finally after you have finished and carefully removed the masking tape spray the whole thing with plasticote clear which you can get in satin or gloss. job done.

HTH :D

EDIT: Heres one I did earlier using that process: AND! I have a chrome strip.

this is an easier way.......

spray the complete cover to your preferred colour, then lightly sand the "Nissan" logo back to the original mould colour, buy "smithy's" chrome strip and then spray clear lacquer. no need for masking up!!

take a look at my "ride" to see my cover.

you dont need heat resistant paint on the cover, its also not as glossy as 2 pac. But it might be handy to have a petrol resistant paint just in case it comes in contact with fuel while replacing a fuel filter. But then again its not hard to remove the cover temporarily.

Good if you dont mind what the colour of the letters are. Otherwise exactly the same process?

I rubbed it all down with emery cloth, plastic primed it.

Since i wanted the nissan to stay white, i masked over the writing and sprayed it the same colour as my car.

Did this a few times, rubbing down with 1200 grit after letting each coat dry.

Removed the masking tape from the letting revealing the white writing.

Gave the whole thing a few coats of laquer and put on a Smithy's polished strip thing!

That looks fantastic Jimmy.

A red water top hose would finish it of nicely.
