Hey all

I have been hacking up and down the A24 trying to set up the suspension and I have a really odd problem.

When I brake and squeeze the pedal it starts to slow down and brakes in a straight line, I gradually increase the pressure and it brakes harder, then I hit a certain amount of pedal pressure and the car pulls very suddenly and slightly to the left then if I come off the pedal slightly it pulls back to the right. I can repeat this over and over.

Now when I had the car rebuilt I had the front bushes replaced with poly bushes, I have adjustable tension rods etc etc. Can anyone guess what might be causing the problem. It feels like something is managing to hold on until a certain amount of pressure on the brakes and then is giving but then gives in the opposite direction exactly the same amount when I come off the pedal????

Cheers all

usally a dodgy pipe line. sticking piston but your set up is brand new.

Have you tried bleeding your brakes since they were fitted?

Semi seized caliper pistons, sometimes the amount of pressure to move all of the piston can become unbalanced which means on light braking not all the pistons are moving to act on the disc until extra pressure is applied and this can cause one wheel to get extra braking applied which will cause the car to veer, you need to inspect the brake calipers and maybe rebuild them.

could be a number of things, like when your braking more wieght is transfered to the front and anything that is loose of worn will flex causing unwanted steering under braking, but brakes are normally the cause, but yours are new. is your tension rods caster and tracking set up striaght? looks like ya got some investigating to do.

by the way the rear calipers could also cause brake steer if one is out slightly or siezed etc

Hey guys thanks for the replies.

Stella, I had a look at the front end and apart from the slight misalignment from a previous accident all is good.

I'll get the brakes bled and see if it makes a difference.

Jeff is it likely that new calipers (over a year old but only done 2000 miles) are sticking? I'm planning on bringing the car up to you when it needs servicing perhaps a couple of months time, so I might have to save this one for you!

Jimmy Ive had the alignment done twice in 2000 miles although that doesnt mean a thing. Ill have a look to see if there is anything worn etc.

Well nothing is impossible but to be fair I missed that bit so on reflection it would seem unlikely but got to be worth checking as an eliminator.

By the way were they brand new from Nissan or spurious make? if you get chance to check them look at the wear pattern on the pads from side to side and also check the piston dust seals.

Very unlikely for rear brakes to cause the car to veer. You can have massive rear brake inbalance and wouldnt even know.Average cars have around 70/30 split so the majority of braking is done by the front.See this all the time when doing mot,s.

Thanks Jeff I'll have a look. They are the K sports 8 pot fronts. I bought them about a year and a half ago and have done about 2000 miles on them. I reckon its the front left caliper if its anything. I need to get the wheels swapped back so I'll have a look when I swap them over.

Is it likely to be something fixed by something simple like bleeding?
