Hi all,

I am a complete newbie as far as 300zx's go. However, there has just recently been one part ex'd at a garage my bro works at and I was after a bit more information on it / the cars in general.

TBH the garage themselves do not know a lot about the car, and have said that it is a limited edition of 50 and has 400bhp? I have had a quick search but can not find any models that would match those details. Was there ever a limited run of 50 cars of any model? The details the garage has are:

92J Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo Slick Top Manual

400bhp

1 of 50 ever made

52000km

Imported in 2005 and has had a cam belt and three services since then but nothing prior to this.

Silver Metallic

Will come with 12 months MOT

Any information on the exact model, stats, known issues / things to look out for and a rough price you would expect the car to cost would be really appreciated.

Matt

The 1 of 50 and 400bhp bit is most likely BS to be honest, but it is one of the rare editions

Short Wheel Base, slicktop, TT in Manual.

Should think about £4k in todays market if it runs 100% and bodywork/interior is up to scratch

the slicktop is comparativly rare, being a manual twin turbo makes it even rarer, but not rare enough to be only 50.

the entire car including engine bay looks from the picture to be stock with the exception of (the wheels and) the 2 vents on the bottom of the front bumper (it came with vents just not those ones) suggests possible uprated intercoolers. but nothing that obviously indicates it might do 400bhp

What I would say is the front bumber is not the original from that car so most likely had a smash at some point, as that is an N/A bumper with a couple of air ducts badly put in for the intercoolers

Also looks like its had a full blow over respray looking at the engine bay, that along with the front bumper would make me question its history.

Hard to tell from pics, but does look it.

Thanks. Will have to take a close look at it and see if it has its auction sheet from Japan.

So there was no limited edition model that had 400bhp, or if there was this is not one?! So other than being rare due to it being a manual slicktop is it a standard TT? And does that therefore make it a 3ltr v6 TT with 300bhp standard?

No

Yup

Yup

Yep, a slicktop TT Manual - 300hp. It is rare, and there is probably less than 50 in the UK (more like 10-15) , but its not a special edition in itself.

Are you aware of any other modiciations - Chipped ECU, boost conntroller ? ..etc

Wheels look nice and appears to be lowered.

Hi there,

I love the manual TT slicktops and waited for months to buy one myself.

I'll tell you the two main issues I encountered so that it may help you evaluate :

  • Top links on the suspension in front - tyres wore very badly on the inside. Check this out as the wear issue can be more than tracking. I replaced mine with OEM parts which was not cheap, but then again nothing is with the Zed's
  • Rear hicas & rear balls - the suspension was very giddy and unreliable. I had to replace these parts on mine and it felt like a different car afterwards. You may decide to eliminate the hicas altogether.

The above problems resulted in the need for an all round tyre change but I knew that when I was buying in addition to deciding that I was going to do all round service to include cambelt and all the other belts.

I'd also suggest reading the following link:

http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=28072

Regarding price - anything from £2500 upwards depending on condition etc for a stock model. That one that you were looking at looks clean, tidy and looked after with low kms, so I'd expect to pay £3,500 plus.... but remember its a buyers market! (Thats of course, that it is genuine and it hasn't been crashed)

And I am not aware of any limited edition 400bhp slicktops. They were standard specs and if anything were the cheaper model release back then, even though they are worth more now.

Hope that helps you somewhat, and best of luck with whatever you decide.

forgot to add that my pricing was conditional on it being a genuine uncrashed car

if this is a for sale thread then it will be removed as only subscribed members are permitted to sel on these forums

also the car has an impul front bumper, nice lookin motor

sctually, not sure if it is an impul think its just standard with ducts cut out, which may suggest bigger intercoolers???

Woohoo looks like mine, I must have #49 then

Nope reflection off something, weird isnt it?

Should of said, I thought that when I first saw the pic and ran out to look at it to make sure lol

Nice set of wheels on her. What are they?

Work equip 3 piece splits. Just had them re-furbed. TBH they are one of my favourite things on the car. you can see them on a couple of the cars in the "best looking zed" thread. I was really lucky they were on her when i bought. Bit tatty but lovely now they are done

also have a read of the FAQ's on what to look for, these aren't simple cars and can end up costing a lot of time and money to run but the drive and ownership is rewarding. And they're pretty thirsty too probably avg around 20mpg or less !!

yeah ive had mine not long and its still geting bits done to it ive had to get heater matrix done and few bits on the engine but its getting there :P
