all the soliders risking their lives for this country - do they get anything? hmmmm

I like Lewis, but I dont think he deserves an MBE for doing what he loves, and getting paid millions in the process :nono:

And why wasn't Rebecca Adlington given a damehood?

Kelly holmes got one for getting 2 medals!

They usually like giving out awards at the end of people's careers/lives in case they caught doing something wrong!

Not one positive comment about Lewis and his MBE I guess he is not liked but I like to think he got an MBE for chassing a dream from a young boy and realising it in his second f1 season and just missing out in his first season by one point that takes a lot of commitment. I wish him all the best for the new season and gains his second championship win.

I don't think people are being negative or dislike him, just that it is premature for a young person to receive this honour with lets face it, one world championship under his belt!

I dont think there is a dislike of Lewis either. He is a small part of a team, what do his team mates get for their hard work. Being honest IMO honours and things like that are old fashioned and it wouldnt make me feel or treat him any different.

All the people that were honoured have done something but as people said what about the soldiers.

All the best Cheers John

MEMBER BRITISH EMPIRE what empire says it all really!:D

dan.:)

lol!

I went to support him at Silverstone, but I can't fully agree with the award somehow.

I agree that he does seem to be somewhat inappropriate choice. I agree he is a very talented young sportsman but it feels somehow to have de-valued such an honour to recieve it for winning an F1 championship?? surely thats what the cup and the millions and millions of pounds of salary is for. Perhaps if like Chris Hoy he had won 3 F1 Championships it would feel better.

For me he would be more worthy of the award if he actually contributed something in the UK to benefit others less fortunate than himself and perhaps pay for a couple of medals for our service men and women?? rather than being a non-dom in Monaco or Switzerland.

its pathetic that sports people get them, give them to doctors who save lives or people how have devoted their lives to raising money for charities etc

not people who earn silly amounts of money for doing something they love doing!!

agreed. What impact does F1 really have on peoples lives??

Its ok to watch now and again and that for me is about it. Prefer WSB or MotoGP and WRC.

i love f1 and am a fan of lewis hamilton but in recent years both governments have done a lot to lose the credibilty of the honours system its like confety throw em and see were they stick.

It's a bit of joke in my opinion. MBE at what 23.... 2 F1 seasons under his belt, a stonking missus, 1 world championship, it's not like he's being awarded a lifetime achievement award or charity work he's not doing....what's next Lewis Hamilton - My story, pop up book, and it'll read...born, drove a car, won the F1 world crown, sh**ged a pussy cat doll, MBE.... At least give it to people who truly deserve it. Mansell didn't get one until well into his career, damon hill, coultard, martin brundle, the honda driver who's out of a job... They all dedicated their lives to driving but have they all got an MBE..NO..it's a popular people vote, the queen doesn't even know who Hamilton is...can't see her wearing a hamilton baseball cap to be honest. Although if anyone with photoshop can do this, it's be great.

Unfortunately it looks like a bit of a train crash on its way as he is not only shagging her he has got engaged to her!!!

Now thats worse than a screw driver in both ears!

MBE is an acceptable accolade for a World Champ, imho. It's when you get into the realms of OBEs and above that I get pissed off - unless they are truly magnificent achievements eg. Sir Steve Redgrave.

I still think an OBE for Jonathan Woss is the biggest mistake in honours-giving ever. The bloody Labour party are going for the popularity contest to win votes.

It's about time Paul Daniels was knighted.

So why haven't they given them out to every British world champion?

So why haven't they given them out to every British world champion?

Like I said, with the Labour party dishing out the honours it's more about who they want to be seen to be associated with, rather than if the person actually earned it through achieving a certain goal. I personally know a world champ who deserves an MBE but compound field archery just isn't in the limelight.
