I think it may be the power supply it's only 4 months old a Red PC power one and was nearly £125 on its own. I am so fecked off just hope it's not the mobo or taken my quad out with it :headvswal:headvswal:headvswal:cry::cry:

need a shoe horn for that one murty :D 1.96v for the ram is stable now it goes up in 0.02v steps ....thought it was 1.95v on my old board was sooo long ago though. just installing the new mobo drives as my usb mouse didn't work has to use a ps2 adapter as the chipset drivers were't installed. still all looks good now just need to take the old board back to the shop along with the q connector and make them retest it. :headvswal then it'll be up for sale on fleabay :)

think this might be a problem. Anyone know the stock voltage for a q6600 max is 1.35v on the box think I may have had to alter this on my last board seems hot for idle too last board was around 27c with same heatsink

Turn off that smart fan crap!!!! Or what ever it is called, it will make your computer quite but it only makes the fan kick in once the temp reaches above X amount. Turning it off makes the fans run at full speed all the time making the processor cooler

  • Author

i did that shortly after to as I though the same but fan speed like for like with last board was 15c cooler

formatted .... reinstalled vista, all usb's removed ,all cables changed different monitor used, still reboots.Ultimate boot cd.... Memtest86 came back pass complete no errors, did a surface scan with one of the tools too and that came back all good with no bad sectors. so that just leaves new mobo(brand new)psu(checked by shop that sold it me said it's goo),cpu(will try a P4 3.0ghx today see if that works) and video card. Getting nowhere with this

Try upgrading your drivers or installing XP

tried xp yesterday it locked up whilst installing motherboard drivers arrrrrrrggggg . I have a 3ghz LGA pent 4 to try next and some other ram just incase there is a conflict or the board dont like the ram. See how that goes it's doing me nut in. In the last 10 years I've built about 15 different pc's for myself family and friends icl. a few powerful builds but this one is being a knob with a capitol K :headvswal

a bit of a long shot......i installed a new 500 gig sata hard drive on mine....got about 3 mins into windows and would reboot everytime....had to go into bios and alter a couple of settings and now it runs fine......

I've pulled sata out and now it's been running in another machine I have for 2 days without a prob. it was one of my thoughts also .... I freeckin hate pc's why they go wrong.

when i built my pc i had a few probs and it was just a case of checking every thing that i could think of. its worth it though as you may sort out a few other little niggles along the way. glad its working without any probs now though :).

I was gonna flash the bios but it won't hold stable for long enough to trust and I think it's a windows util. I downloaded a newr bios file before I did another format so I'll have to download it again. I don't have a fdd in it either so I guess if it was self boot util I could use a usb drive i'll have a check on the asus site definately a worth a shot .

Tried the RAM last night it wouldn't pick it up...seems to be ram fussy. I should email asus support too

added.........yup bios is a boot floppy job. Have to "pull a floppy" out of an old unit will give it a shot

managed to pull the power supply partially enought to check for fuses.....I can find no fuses in this one and the outer label says no user servicable parts. Also checked the case power switch seems to be ok. looks like it'll have to go in to shop I got psu from at least if they check it should still come under warranty as they can see what's at fault if it is that.just before last xmas my car went pop I feckin detest xmas

now my tumble drier has snapped a belt and drum shaft snapped:headvswal:headvswal:headvswal £30 to fix in parts online but my mrs reckon it would worry her as the motor is also a little noisey too and she thinks it may go on fire so new one it is  spose she has a point it is full of feckin fluff. they are a real dangerous design. It draws air from the drum (full of fluff from clothes) and throws it directly onto a heating element via an impellor.

BIOS Flashed via USB pen(feck that's cool f2+alt on boot find file...enter done no more cranky magentic floppies when your hearts pounding 'til the end of the flash) and................... seems all good.... looped 3dmark loads and no probs(touch wood) the boards got an infant chipset and is in it's early days (intel p45(sounds about right in the current economic climate)) looks good for an ass pounding in the future the P35 was good for 3.8ghz q6600 on air with what I have
