I think it may be the power supply it's only 4 months old a Red PC power one and was nearly £125 on its own. I am so fecked off just hope it's not the mobo or taken my quad out with it :headvswal:headvswal:headvswal:cry::cry:

when I leave it a few mins then try power button the illuminated fan flashes as if it briefly tries to power but runs out of current :headvswal prob is everything is a new build gfx, cpu, ram, hdd, the other computers I have are all older technology so can't even go through each item one at a time. It's gonna take 1/2 a day to get the supply out of the tw@t will check the power switch like you said I can get to that easy would be a good port of call

managed to pull the power supply partially enought to check for fuses.....I can find no fuses in this one and the outer label says no user servicable parts. Also checked the case power switch seems to be ok. looks like it'll have to go in to shop I got psu from at least if they check it should still come under warranty as they can see what's at fault if it is that.just before last xmas my car went pop I feckin detest xmas

Wierd thing is, if you have the LED status light on your motherboard than the power supply is giving current to the board... im guessing motherboard or cpu...

Easy thing to do is take your power supply out and get a bit of metal and connect the green and one of the black wires together, if it turns on then its not your power supply! It is normally green on most power supplies but not all of them...

You will notice that the green wire or what ever colour is it, is located next to black wires both sides, btw the wires i am on about are on the 24pin big beast of a cable....

I had a power supply fail before that ran as normal but wouldnt crank the board up. It ejected the cd trays and everything but would fire. I just found this http://www.squidoo.com/power-supply-failure-symptoms hopefully will find out tommorrow

disconnected board, card and drive connectors then bridged the green and black terminals and power supply runs the fans ok. I can't find my circuit tested to test the on off switch properly although all connections are solid. Need to properly test that next. Is the on of switch just a signal voltage or constant feed?

I have seen a mobo I would like I have an asus p5n32e sli (same as striker extreme except a few things like LED display etc) it's another asus one that takes ddr2 or ddr3 which is good plus I think it has the new 45nm technology for newer quads. I just need to eliminate what is wrong for sure first

also just noticed it has a 3 year warranty on the box i'll drop 'em an email anyone had any dealings with asus board warranty?

The green wire is just like the turn on button for your computer. All you are doing is making a connection between the ground and it which makes the power supply turn on. Get a voltage tester on the molex connectors and make sure the right amount of current is running.

Normally if your power supply is up and running than its not that which has blown!! Try smelling around for burnt / broken off resisters etc. Also take your CPU graphics card and ram all out and just connect the front panel up or use a screw driver along the connectors and connect the power supply to the motherboard. If your motherboard is working and turning on then you will hear beep codes as long as your speaker is linked up!

Do one bit at a time and you will find out what has blown! Doing this will be easier if any issues have in the future with the same components! Need any more help just post here or pm me

I'll strip the components out and try to see if the board posts now in a bit be back soon cheers dude

still waiting for asus to reply takinig the psu back to shop tomorrow also to be tested. Board is 18 months old(3 year warranty) didn't think i'd had it that long psu only a few months

asus customer support it sh#t for starter. All componenets stripped out murt just the mainboard, power cables to it and case switches. It does not post just the green power LED as before or fire up the psu. The psu will fire on it's own when cables removed and green bridged to black. Guess mobo is dead by the looks.

asus RMA policy is.. I pay them £16 for an RMA number(tesing, their shipping fees etc.) and I have to pay to have it posted to their UK repair distributer which in turn sends it to their europe repair centre. If it turns out that it is knackered and it's their feckin' board at fault they don't refund me either. ###ts

if my boards die i just return it to were i brought it from. They do a straight swap
