Hi all,

The Zed was running ok last week, I unfortunately left the interior light on and flattened the battery :slap:

 

Recharged it, (off car), went to start up and she wouldn't fire up. Cranking well and trying to fire up but never actually getting there. There is a strong smell of petrol, so I think that I may have flooded her.

 

Given that weather conditions up here are pretty cold and damp, am I best removing all the plugs and drying them out or hoping that they will dry out themselves in situ?

Removethe fuel pump relay and crank several times to get rid of any excess fuel.

 

While you have that removed, you want to see if you are getting a spark. Check 1st and 6th plug first, if you don't get a spark check and clean the connections on your PTU.

I've found out the shortcomings of my toolbox, no Allen key the correct size to remove the coil brackets. :o

 

A trip up to the shops is in order.

Ah Ha, all she needed was the threat of me and my inadequate toolbox :dance:

 

Started up, may have been flooded right enough but idle is all over the place.

 

Will idle between 900 and 700 RPM, then drops, catches again and stalls :confused:

 

Any ideas, she runs fine on the road.

Your odd idle will probably be because of the ECU forgetting what its learnt and should stablise after a while.

 

Also i wonder if it was an issue with the flat battery and an imboliser if it has one? Possible.

Take it for a long drive to try and relearn the ECU. if it is still in a bad way after 50 miles or so, you'll need someone to hook a conzult up to it to find the problem.

How does this work as i thought it would be mainly based on MAF and LAMBDA sensors which will be taking readings in the same way and adjusting accordingly on the fly, what is it that the ECU "re-learns"? :confused:

Surely, the ECU should store the required information in it's memory?

 

The car does have an alarm/immobiliser but for the life of me, I haven't been able to figure out what it does and when it does it. :o:D

The pipe on the TPS seemed ok, the idle is now back to normal - after a short run and a good ten minutes idling without stalling. :D
