...anyone installed service pack one yet on vista?

I'm typing this on my laptop with ye old faithful 'XP' operating system, but my main PC has locked up about 15 times in the last hour since installing service pack one and i have to keep re-booting it! It's doing my absolute nut in and if it wern't for the media centre software which i now use for recording digi TV and playing DVD's in this room I would wipe the drive and install XP.

We've not upgraded at work as the new system is so unstable, but do any of you use vista on a day to day basis? How do you get on with it?

make that 16 times as i've now got to re-boot again....Safe mode this time and try reg mechanic..

vista is sh#t I fu##in hate it. got service pack one on here. Slow cumbersome heap of crap. I got a quad with 4g of corsair xms2 and to be honest it was running quicker with a duo with half that amount of ram on xp. If it weren't for directx 10 and games I'd have got shot of it ages ago BIG thumbs down balls to the aero desktop etc etc what a load of shite

Tell me about it. Service pack one has just made it useless...It won't run for 5 mins now without locking up!

Well nearly an hour later again now and it's still shitsta! Runs fine in safe mode, locks up every 5 minutes in normal mode. and i've re-booted it about 40 times tonight and thats no exageration. If Microsoft had shops, i'd be inserting my PC in some sales assistants rump in the morning and demanding a replacement!

if it boots in safe mode, can'y you do a system restore to before you installed SP1?

that would be my first try

I've got a Dell Lappy with only 2 GB RAM but vista's been good to me so far (about 2 months now). Been using the machine for Vid editing too

not installed SP1 though I dont think, unless mine came with it given it was pretty new.

but yeah, system restore to before the SP1 install would be the first thing I'd try.

Yeah done this AGAIN tonight! Finally tried the install in safe mode just to try and it gets to 100% after 2.5 hours and tells me it did'nt install! Now got to wait for it to revert changes! Some motherboards have issues i think (done alot of reading now!) and i need to go back to manufacturer i think.

my slaptop is Vista and no probs.....

but then I'm paying for 24/7 support so I suppose miicrosoft are getting their own back !

two laptops and one PC all on vista and no problems.

All on SP1 though? My main PC was running great till i installed this as a recommended update!! Now after all my reading i realise the service pack came out in March!

Two issues; 1. Why has it taken so long to let me know that it's a recomended update? (had the PC since mid 2007, so why no update when it was released!)

and 2. Why am i wasting my life away trying to solve it!:headvswal:headvswal

yeah i was mainly meaining, sys restore to before SP1....and then... just DONT install Sp1 :D

wait for everyone else to bug test it ;) Thats what i do, and im in IT.

Think it must be to do with certain hardware because I've had Vista with SP1 installed on my laptop for months now and it's fine  lol

I run Vista and OSX on the Mac under bootcamp and never had a problem.

I also run Vista on a virtual machine on OSX in VMFusionWare in unity (runs windows apps on the same screen at the same time as osx - best of both worlds) and never get a problem.

how do you do this i want to do it on my macbook with xp

All you need is a copy of the latest version of osx and it comes as standard. You also need an intel machine.

If you're stuck with the tiger 10.4 though and you have an intel machine if you get hold of a copy of vmware fusion (it's only $50 to buy) you can run a number of virtual machines full screen.

I've got an 8 core (twin quad core) 2.8 intel Mac Pro and i use one processor for windows and one for osx at the same time, works a treat :D

I had sp1 in the vista I bought as one of my builds. It's a pile of sh!t Ok maybe it's nice and glossy etc. but it's much less responsive than xp seems to spend most of it's time doing things it shouldn't be and you end up constantly waiting for it to do what you want. The same machine(a Quad 2.4 with 9800gtx 4gb corsair Ram) ran a whole lot quicker with xp. Just as they had sorted xp with the service packs they introduced another mule to the paddock. Ok it's stable on my machine but by f##k it's like a slug sometimes. Games do run ok though more or less the same benches.

i had vista already installed when i bought my pc encountered a fair few software issues and probs playing older games

got xp now though with most of the vista gadgets never had a prob since!
