got a 40" sony bravia it's feckin awsome had an onn asda 37" lcd before that and that was good too. Tried quite a few first and there are some bad ones. plasma are better for picture quality but still not convinced by their reliability

Panasonic make the best pictures by far. I wouldn't entertain looking at anything else.

Unless you want to spend a lot more on something like the Pioneer Kuro then I would agree. I have a Panasonic and the PQ is excellent:dance::duffer:

just seen a deal at comet on a samsung PS50A457, comes with the stand and a 5.1 dvd home cinema kit for £997, obviousely i will want some discount and intrest free credit

i've got 2 samsung's one's plasma and the others LCD, the plasma is 50" love it and would buy another but the built in speakers are crap and give you vibration/feedback but i've got a dolby digital surround soud setup to it doesn't bother me so you should be ok with the 5.1.

I found that the sony bravia lcd to have the best pics in the shops and the panasonic plasma had a very hazey finish to the picture and there was also far to much yellow in the picture as did the samsung.

If you go over 42" then you should go plasma however your electric bills will go up.

Currys also do interest free for 12 months.

Pioneer are the best but twice the price. I too would go for a Panasonic if I was getting a plasma. Go to the right places and you'll also get five year warranty.

With the vat down it might be an idea to go to Costco, good selection of LCD and plasma and 5 year warranty

 agreed has to be plasma for the bigger sizes

gonna wait till jan sales now i think, will give me time to research what im after

I've got a 5 year old Panasonic plasma 42 inch still going strong. I also have a 43 inch pioneer plasma and the picture is fantastic. My mates got a panasonic viera 50 inch and when you play dvd's it's awsome but when watching normal sky it's a bit grainey but on sky HD the pictures mint. I don't think the sky signal is good enough for 50 inch.

plasmas are very reliable, i have had them for years, i have the 50" panasonic full hd and its superb :)

if you are looking for 40" or less then i would go LCD but anything higher then go plasma without a doubt!!

I've just bought a 37" Viera (720p) plasma and I'm well impressed with it. It has a response time of 0.1ms, which is nearly as good as a CRT. Upscaling is the way to go for SD channels, HD ones are obviously gonna be best.

If you've got kids then the Vieras have a very tough front panel. My mate's 42" LCD LG is 1080p, cost the same as mine, but I can't see much difference in picture quality. The LCD is slower to react to fast moving video, but they are cheaper to buy.

As someone else said, go for a long warranty because they're not cheap to fix like the old tellies. Dave.
