What do you guys think, wont part with the z for the next few years though, I think I would get one of these next if I was to have another child.

Yep, Im after a E39 5 series for our family car. Fantastic cars. I would'nt replace the Zed for one, but the regular versions (non M5) makes a great daily driver.

If you wanted to replace the zed then yeh, the M5 is a beast and If I had to, then that would be my choice.

Won dozens of Car awards, and praised as being the best car in the world at the time.

The z is my every day car, so if I was to get one in the future it would be replacing my z, how do you think it would compare to a 450 whp z?

Slower and a lot more civilised, but more praticle lol

They are fantastic cars and actually have the horsepower that they claim, unlike a lot of Zeds. Superb performance and braking, you will not be disappointed.

My Zed is my daily drive (had to get a jap car with 4 seats though), the misses has a Grand Scenic with a 1.6 power house......!!!!!!!

They are faster then a stock Zed.

Yep, but he asked how it would compare to a 450 whp zed ;)

Can u tune the m5, Im thinking that if i had one, maybe would supercharge it ha ha, maybe an lpg conversion would help too

I have a feeling they are very expensive to maintain, more than the Z. I would love one though just for the effortless power.

Oops - missed that bit. Mine's around 400fwhp and I once had one going for it behind me. He couldn't keep up and this later sparked a debate on here with someone who didn't believe me - I'll film it, should there be a next time lol! The BMW is let down by its weight, otherwise it's a great car.

ive driven a couple and i would say the e36 m3 evo smg has the same pace as a twin turbo auto and the box is a lot more precise but the one to have as always is the 6 speed evo they are monsterous and have 320bhp as standard and weigh about 500kg less than a Z!

To the guy who started this thread e39s are awesome,i havent been lucky enough to drive an m5 but you wouldnt be disapointed e39s feel so modern and well screwed together, why not try a e36 m3 evo 4 door- rare and half the price.im an ex bmw nut by the way but im been converted to the way of the Z these days!!

500kg no. They weigh about same as a Slicktop TT, and about 100kg less than a 2+2 TT

yeah the evo is unreliable if not looked after apparently but what cars arent? ive heard the vanos valve timing thingy on the evo can be troublesome.as for the weight difference-maybe i read it wrong but ive had 2 328i sports and they felt like they weighed sod all.Do you know the actual weight of all the zx's all the figures ive found are different or confussing lol

The 328i will be lighter than the M3. But things like Wheelbase, wheel track and even more important - "suspension condition" will make one car feel heavier and lazier than another. Most Zed's are running around on tired old shocks, springs and bushes; the difference even just replacing parts with new stock parts is massive.

The zed weights about the same as most Powerfull RWD Coupes - M3, Supra, GTR, 911 ..etc

There are a fair amount of threads on here about weight, but it varies depending on spec.....

Approximate figures

LWB TT is around 1560-1580 kg

SWB TT is around 1530-1550 kg

Slicktop TT is around 1480-1500 kg

LWB NA is around 1470-1490 kg

SWB NA is around 1440-1460 kg

Slicktop NA is around 1400-1420 kg

yeah the 328 sport is slightly lighter but not much lighter than m3 the only difference between them is there engine as the sport has an m3 chassis.....as for the weight of the zx i have been mislead as i read it was near 1800kg lol thats made my day knowing it doesnt weight that much cheers
